West Catholic Harriers shine in regionals The hard work and effort of all members of the Cross Country Squad, combined with their precise team- work again reaped many benefits. As in the previous years, they continued to better their team reputation. Seemingly sparked by the hard running of Jim Bancuk, Bill Pelak and Jim Rittenhouse the team completely shattered last year's achievements. By finishing fourth in the overall city meet would have been enough to prove this, but their fine showing in the Regional Run which netted them a tenth place out of twenty-three teams competing, surely sets a high goal for next year's team. The team owes much of its success to Mr. Leonard Skrycki who has molded them into what may be termed a precision machine. Without his ability and know-how, such a year would not have been possible. Falcons, stand up and take notice of the fine accomplishments of a team with a season well-run! O Falcons triumph as District Champions By pounding Union 64-44 in a non-league opener and up- setting Catholic Central early in the season, the Falcons began to look forward to great things. Although the Falcons were tipped, only by slight margins, in the next nine games they knew they were better than the record they had compiled. Catholic Central again gave the Falcons a chance to prove this as they went down in defeat a second time 7'l-68 and handed the Falcons another victory. The remainder of the season proved disastrous as the Green and White was defeated by Creston and Ottawa. ln the tournament play-offs the Falcons began to roll once again. By striking hard and fast their first opponent, Traverse City, was eliminated with a 64-62 victory. The next game with Union would decide who would become district champions. Al- though the Red Hawks fought galantly, the Falcons again emerged as victors and annihilated Union 5l-44. lt was all over before anyone realized that the youngest team in the league was now District Champions. The traditional Falcon drive and spirit were prevalent through- out the entire season. We here at West would like to extend our congratulations to Mr. Wagner and his District Champions. Coach Wagner hails his Falcons.
