Underclassmen spirit brighten future Coaching essentially the same team this year as they coached last year, Mr. Jendrasiak and Mr. De Voe proved that having the same team for two years is helpful. The sophs compiled a 5-2 record. In spite of having lost many players to the varsity ranks, the sophs defeated Grandville, Central, Creston, Ottawa, and South. For the next two years these boys should provide West with a strong varsity team. Two new coaches at West, Mr. Psaila and Mr. Pettyplace along with Mr. Morton, directed the freshmen to a l-3-l record. Although the season started disastrously with three straight losses, the frosh gained experience. Combining this expe- rience with teamwork and hustle, they tied Union and defeated South to finish the season on a more encouraging level. West Catholic Harriers shine in regionals The hard work and effort of all members of the Cross Country Squad, combined with their precise team- work again reaped many benefits. As in the previous years, they continued to better their team reputation. Seemingly sparked by the hard running of Jim Bancuk, Bill Pelak and Jim Rittenhouse the team completely shattered last year's achievements. By finishing fourth in the overall city meet would have been enough to prove this, but their fine showing in the Regional Run which netted them a tenth place out of twenty-three teams competing, surely sets a high goal for next year's team. The team owes much of its success to Mr. Leonard Skrycki who has molded them into what may be termed a precision machine. Without his ability and know-how, such a year would not have been possible. Falcons, stand up and take notice of the fine accomplishments of a team with a season well-run!
