Photography and science intrigue students A few Physics students have shown their interest in working proiects unable to be undertaken during class time, through the Physics Club. This year the Club, under the guidance of Sister Thomas Rose, has delved into a relatively new field-the science of subatomic particles. The members of the Camera Club have truly given their time and energy to the service of our school. All of the pictures for our newspaper and some of the pic- tures in our WEST yearbook were taken by these devoted photographers. They not only took the pictures, but developed them in our dark room, at West. They also spent sometime in the study of methods to keep improving their skill. Sister Marie DeLourdes, their adviser, can iustly be proud of them.

A promising Future lies ahead The goal of the Future Teachers Association is to give its members a more comprehensive insight into the teaching profession - its pros and cons, and the various fields that are open to a young person entering the occupation. This year, under the guidance of Miss Johnson and Mr. Stewart, the members have probed into the above and have gained practical experience by acting as teacher aids and by attending institutes such as the one given at Aquinas College. To provide practical experience as a secretary, Sister M. Lea has organized the future Secretaries Club. The services rendered the faculty members have been numerous- They range from the typing of tests to other supplementary materials needed for classroom use. One club which has had a strong existence at West for several years is the Future Nurses. Experience in nursing and its diFFerent fields is the most important aim ofthe club. Through the aid of their adviser, Sister M. Victor Rose, they managed to obtain over three hundred dollars for the Mus- cular Dystrophy Fund. They also added to the Christmas spirit by caroling to the children at St. Mary's Hospital. With this spirit of self-sacrifice the teaching, secre- tarial, and nursing professions will gain much in the future. Safety Council promotes school welfare This year, with the efforts of Mr. Spenski, the Safety Council has renewed its goal of keeping our community, as well as our school, safe. A great deal of time was spent in planning and carrying on the car check in our school parking lot. Each car was checked 'For such standard de- vices as turn signals, horn, and brake lights. The members also directed traH'ic after school to alleviate the congestion of incoming and outgoing cars and buses. These members could be spotted by their safety badges which gave them authority to take away I.D. cards whenever they saw students running in halls, using the courts in inclement weather, or doing anything that might be accident prone. West Catholic was again honored this year by having their Saftey Council president, Barb Grzes- zak, chosen Safety Sweetheart of Greater Grand Rapids.
