Shirley ' Herb: Shirley' llerh : Shirley ' Herb : Shirley ' llerb 3 Shirley ' Dick studied engineering at Clarkson and did so well that the Navy offered him an important engineering job as well as the commission of Lieutenant Commander. A week ago the Queen Margaret arrived from Egypt and docked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. On board was a pla- toon of Waves under the command of Captain Patty Pfatt. Lieutenant Commander Russell reported that the crossing was uneventful. Did you read the article by Jacqueline Bintz, a teacher of Home liconomics? She, as presi- dent of the UTU, stated in a press conference yesterday that the aims of the United Teachers' Union were higher wages, longer vacations and shorter teaching hours. She was strongly backed by Barbara Wilton, First grade teacher, and Carol Rowley, a music teacher. lt is a wonder that the article didn't mention Eileen O'Connor, our gal Irish, who is an art teacher. Bill Hofer, a well known artist in his field. has been photographing some beautiful paintings done by Eileen. Did you know that Noreen Wilton was here in New York work- ing as a private secretary? She recently married her wealthy employer. Jane Peck became so famous for her designs in dressmaking that a French designer adopted some of them. Two years ago jane married the Frenchman in Paris. Rumor has it that she is divorcing him and will return to the States to marry her former sweetheart. john Moseley worked himself up to Admiral in the Navy and, hy the way. has a girl in every port. Carol Rowley and jean Sheldon are soloists at the Cotton Club, while jim johnson's spark- Img piano act is one you cannot afford to miss. 'He is hailed as one of the great jazz pianists of the day. 'I wonder if y-our husband and you would join me at the Cotton Club tonight. We should be glad to do so. Good! Since we have had such an interesting visit, there isn't any use in trying to talk busi- ness. I shall try my salesmanship next door. At nine o'clock then. Good-bye. Good-bye until nine.
