History of the Class of 1950 Only a few weeks remain until we, the class of 1950, are graduated from our Alma Mater and until we separate to go our way into the life for which each of us has been preparing. Although we are happy to be completing this stage of our journey through life, we shall always treasure the memo- ries of the good times we have shared here in West Carthage High School. Let me tell you about them. Four years ago, we first had the honor of entering West Carthage High School. For years we had dreamed of that day! It all seemed easy until our first report cards came out, then we discover- ed that high school students had to study, too.' For the remainder of that year, we settled down to studying. The next year, having elected a president, we commenced working in September in order to pass our final exams in June. That picture of distant 1950 and of graduation was constantly in our minds. But, you mustn't think that the Sophomore Class was forgotten for the remainder of that year. Several fellows were on the junior Varsity basketball team and a few girls became Junior Vars- ity cheerleaders. Also, through all four years of high school, several classmates took part in the chorus and in the school band. The next year was the most important, for we had to prepare ourselves for our final year in high school - the year when we would be seniors. Again, several classmates joined the basketball and cheering squads to help West Carthage hold her ground in the Frontier League. We soon tackled the job of selling advertisements for the Senior Play programs. The pride of being next year's Senior Class led us to raise more funds than any previous junior Class had raised. After two long months of waiting, our class rings arrived, just the day before Christmas vaca- tion. These helped to make Christmas of 1948 one which we shall never forget. Having raised sufficient funds from a Food Sale and from serving refreshments at basketball games, our class voted to have a picnic at Lake Bonaparte, New York. With the help of several snap- shots, we shall remember that carefree day for years to come. Exams soon followed and brought to an end the history of our junior Class. At last we were seniors! We were glad on September 7 -to return to school for our final year of learning and of companionship with fellow classmates and teachers. We started the year by electing our officers. Again this year, several fellows and girls helped to make the majority of the varsity basketball and cheerleading squads. Three seniors also took part in a Quiz Program over a radio station in Watertown, New York. They succeeded in winning five consecutive victories. Our class was fortunate to be the first to take a driver training course, due largely to the do- nation of a dual control training car by the Dingman Chevrolet Company. It was a very worth-while course and many seniors took advantage of it. In mid-October we started to practice our Senior Play, Our Boarding House , which was presented on November 17. We owe much of the play's huge success to Mrs. Rushman, under whose direction it was presented. Early in the year, the seniors voted to publish a yearbook, The Rambler , the first to be publish- ed in West Carthage High School. We also decided to have Class Night, to wear caps and gowns for the Commencement Exercises, and to have a class picnic. june 27, the night of our Commencement Exercises, will be a night of happiness mingled with sorrow for the thirty-one members of our class. We will have completed one more step in our journey through life. We must say farewell to our teachers and to our friends who have helped us through these years, and to our Alma Mater, West Carthage High School, which has been our meeting place. We shall never forget these years. U V
