Student Lite 17 Homecoming Pirate Spirit Comas Aliva The true pride and spirit of the Red and Black comes alive at Homecoming for the students, faculty, and community of West Carrollton. For five days, students built their Pirate spirit for the long-awaited weekend. Monday was Country Day where students wore cowboy boots, hats, and Hank Williams, Jr. t-shirts. The students broke out the beach attire on Tuesday for Beach Day. Gotcha’ Day gave students a chance to have their pictures taken in their college sweats on Wednesday. Thursday, Servant Day, gave seniors the chance to seek revenge on the underclassmen. The seniors sought to “do unto the underclassmen as was done unto them when they were underclassmen.” Friday allowed the entire school to show their true colors on Red and Black Day. Aside from the fun and games, the students frantically worked, putting the finishing touches on their floats to bring Homecoming 1986 alive. 1 — Lana and Margaret show us how to get down at the dance. 2 — Mark enjoys having Cathy as his slave. 3 — Tim is looking for Heaven in Terri's eyes. 4 Jeff always dresses up for a football game. 5 — Fernando and Delores spend a night in Heaven. 6 The Pirate crowd has a great time at the Homecoming football game. 7 “Come on baby, let’s tango. 8 — Angel and Greg get ready for their first ride atop a Corvette. 9 — Bradley Mouse and Winnie, too 10 Brian announces and unveils the 1986 Homecoming Court. 18 Student Lite Homecoming “Heaven In Your Eyas ‘‘It’s a lot of hard work and many little things are needed for everything to work out, but it was very exciting and the whole day was a special one,” were Mr. Mike Bultman’s comments about the 1986 Homecoming. As one of the Senior Class advisors, this was Mr. Bultman’s first involvement with the planning and arrangements of Homecoming. The day’s festivities began with the traditional morning parade. I thought it went great, very smooth,” said parade chairperson, Mrs. Vicki Hilliard. Coronation was at 12:45 p.m. with the crowning of King Jeff Slovak and Queen Lee Jean McDaniel and traditional introduction of the court. Lee Jean expressed being crowned queen as the neatest day of her life so far, and Jeff added that it was an experience he will remember for the rest of his life. In the afternoon football game, the Pirates suffered a heartbreaking disappointing defeat to the Edgewood Cougars. 17-14. From Coach Bob Brigati’s viewpoint, ‘it was a tough, physical football game and both teams played hard. We just came up short.” The day came to a close with the evening dance, “Heaven in Your Eyes,” in the gym, coordinated by Ms. Nancy Christiansen. 1 — Jennifer’s pride shows through as she awaits the march down the field. 2 — Step into the beat and strike up the band. 3 — A proud embrace shared by two sisters. 4 — Life’s a beach! 5 — The look of a new generation. 6 — “Hey man, this test is a piece of cake.” 7 — Arrg! Homecoming 21 Musical 'Oklahoma! Ok!' The junior high auditorium transformed into the rolling plains of turn-of-the-century America for the annual spring musical. West Carrollton Senior High School put on the Rodgers and Hammerstein production of Oklahoma! on April 23, 24, and 25. Working with a small cast, Director Floyd Lowman presented a very successful and entertaining production. “With the size of the cast in mind, this is one of the finest high school productions we’ve ever seen,” said Mr. and Mrs. Aultz. Lowman added that this production may have been the best musical put on by West Carrollton High School. Rob Stivers and Andrea Burns were cast as the leads. Curly and Laurie. Dee Brown and Emily Redder were the energetic pair of Will Parker and Ado Annie. Janene Burns and Brian Housh maintained order on the plains as Aunt Eller and Andrew Carnes. Steve Williams played the romantic peddler, Ali Hakim. Also helping with the show were Sharon Lowman, musical director; Peter Kavouras, dramatic director; and Donna Dietrich, choreographer. 1 — “That’s about as fer as we c’n go!” 2 — “Thank God I’m a country boy!” 3 — “Who’s gonna bid for our hampers?” 4 — “He he he he he ” 5 — “The hussy!” 6 — “People will say we’re in love.” 7 — “Pore Jud is daid.” 8 — “Starting as a farmer with a brand new wife.” 9 — Steve wonders how he’ll get out of this one. 10 — How’s my honey bunch?” 11 The cast and crew of Oklahoma!. 22 $tudk nt Ufa f rocn 'Navar Say Goodbye' A magical atmosphere was created when the pink and gray streamers and balloons transformed our gym for the 1987 Junior-Senior Prom. Prom 25 Graduation Ths Class Ol IV87 After three years of bells, assemblies, pep rallies, winning, losing, movies, friendships, pizza, losing notes before the big final, books, “Who are you taking to the prom?”, parties, class rings, letter jackets, drivers license, and Friday night football games, the seniors marched to their theme of “Pomp and Circumstance and became graduates. After a class picture in front of the school, a luncheon of fried chicken and Coke in the courtyard, and a two-hour practice in the 100 degree gym, the Class of '87 was ready to take the first step. That came in the form of Baccalaureate. Groups 12V ‘Band Is An Attitude' This year, the Band received a new director, Mr. Clay Bates. Mr. Bates and Mr. Grable, along with field commanders, Rob Stivers and Robin Singleton, worked to put the Band back on its feet. The goals for the Band were to put on quality performances and keep up the Band’s pride through the change in directors. The Band accomplished its goals by receiving excellent ratings at contests this year, and making a trip to Kings Island. “We take pride in Band,” says Mr. Bates. “Band is an attitude.” 1 — Carrie concentrates before the big show. 2 — Four proud Pirates march in style. 3 — Jon daydreams before the show. 4 — Matt impatiently awaits the start of the parade. 5 — Mr. Rice smiles proudly at Parent Night. 6 — Jackie plays her final notes at Senior Night. 7 — Matt tickles the ivories. 8 — Robin strikes up the Band. 9 — Trisha takes her performance seriously. 10 — Don’t worry, they’ll be all right! 11 — The Band in perfect rhythm. 12 — Row 1 — W. She narrowed in on a comedy, choosing not to direct a drama as was done the previous year. “I wanted to prove to the cast that comedy is equally as difficult to perform and portray to an audience as drama,” said Mrs. Lakes. Throughout the week, many classes sang Christmas carols in the halls, serenading the studying students. Senior citizens were treated to lunch served by many WCHS students on Thursday. While the homerooms competed in the festive door decorating contest, the teachers fought for the right to be Santa for a day. Students donated money to area needy families in the name of their favorite teacher. The “Bult-man Bucket” received the most money; therefore, Mr. Bultman portrayed Santa on Friday. The band. Concert Choir, members of the speech and debate team, and the WCHS Men’s Glee Club were also featured at the annual assembly. 1 — Tamara and Ashley listen eagerly to tales of Santa and Christmas. 2 — “AAAAAAA! In July, 1986, the white cloud of phosphorus smoke, which bellowed over Miamisburg as a result of a train derailment, moved its way into West Carrollton causing neighborhood evacuations. Then in January, 1987, we were all shocked by the sudden death of Tim Przy-borowski, graduate of the class of 1985. Tim served as Class President all three years of high school. Also, Ralph Hobbs, owner of downtown West Carrollton’s Ice Cream Corner, was brutally murdered in May, 1987. 1 — The sight of the police sealed off Ice Cream Corner. 2 — The ball of fire rolls over Miamisburg and West Carrollton as captured by photographer Fred Haines. 3 — Tim presides over his Senior Class of 1985 at Graduation ceremonies.
