They say that we’re in here to learn how to survive in the “real world,” but the “real world” is never going to be filled with as much friendship, closeness, and love as this school has in it. I guess that high school teaches us what the “real world” is supposed to be like because we are the only ones who can save it.” — Lisa Johnson Closing 219 “When I was a little girl, I used to think that the year 1985 would never come. It’s hard to believe that 1985 is really here, and now it is our turn to step into the spotlight at graduation. But the best part of it all has been to see how we immature little kids, through the years, have grown into young adults. Learning, laughing, crying, sharing, growing that is what school is all about.” — Teri Barhorst 220 Closing I rr«k Closing 221 “As I complete my eleven and one-half years at West Carrollton Senior High School it is very difficult to adequately express the depth of my feelings for the many school and community people who have touched my life in a special way. My professional approach has certainly been influenced by the sensitive and caring individuals — students, teachers, secretaries, and parents — with whom I have shared each work day. The primary concern that I harbor as I leave West Carrollton is simply — that in some way I too have made a reciprocal contribution to the people of West Carrollton. It has truly been an exciting and rewarding experience and I am positive that I will always be a ‘Pirate at heart’ . . . ” — Dean Pond Closing 223 “Every moment that we are together, I am learning something, and that knowledge becomes a permanent part of me. Though my feelings will be different a year from now, or ten years from now, part of the difference is you. Because of you, I am a different person, and the person I will grow to become, with or without you by my side, will have gotten there partly because of you. If you were not in my life right now, I could not be who I am right now. Nor would I be growing in exactly the same way. Much of what I grow toward, and change within myself, has to do with what I respond to in you, what I learn from you, what I understand about myself through you, and what 1 learn about my feelings in the dynamics of our relationship. I do not worry about our future together, since we have already touched each other and affected each other’s lives on so many levels that we can never be totally removed from each other’s thoughts. A part of me will always be you, and a part of you will always be me. That much is certain, no matter what else happens.” — Larry Chengges 224 Closing
