Pirates’ Stick Work The Lady Pirate field hockey team had a struggling season this year. Because of the loss of field hockey teams in the league, the MCC dropped field hockey as a league sport; thus, the girls could not receive any points in the MCC. The girls faced a tough schedule, playing teams such as Fairmont West, state champs, 1979, and Fairmont East, state champs, 1980. The girls continued to battle throughout the year, defeating Fairborn Baker and Vandalia-Butler in scrimmages and tying Northridge and Vandalia-Butler during the season. The Lady Pirates ended their season with a 0-6-2 record. Receiving Most Valuable Offensive Player was Betty Knedler. The Most Valuable Defensive Player was Janine Gilbert, with Chelley Seibert receiving Scholar Athlete. 1-Melinda Cheat wood awaits the bal. 2-Betty Knedter races down the field. 3-Team Picture-Standing: Coach Karen Streit, Carrie Geiger.
