Pride! The 1980 Pirate football team had a surprisingly successful season this year finishing with a record of 8 wins and 2 losses. The Pirates also finished second in the Miami Central Conference. West Carrollton had four players named to the first team, Miami Central Conference, and five players named to the second team. Two players were named to the first team, All-Greater Dayton, and one player to the second team. Four players received special mention. Senior quarterback Jeff McGuire was named to the second team list All-State. Firt year head coach Bill Gaines had these comments: This year was the first year as a coach that my team has ever won eight games. The seniors were the best group I have ever coached. They showed a tremendous amount of pride when the sportswriters and even their own parents were doubtful, but the seniors had enough heart to prove the non-believers wrong.
