The West Carrollton High School Marching Band fits this description of a band in every way. The band’s season begins in early July and ends in November. The season itself begins with band camp during one week of the summer and continues through daily practices, first period rehearsals and Friday night football games. The band members work very hard, and this year their hard work was rewarded when they brought home two first place trophies and one grand champion trophy. The West Carrollton High School Band is truly a group that has banded together for playing together. Sheri Corey plays her star-struck piccolo. The Big Pirate Marching Machine .. before and after. Good, Cool Fun r How does an entire school get over the “winter blues With the help of the Student Council and the Senior Class, the West Carrollton Senior High School program board presented four fun and entertaining assemblies this winter. The Christmas assembly and the Dating Game brought back the school spirit which seemed absent during split sessions, and the Gong Show and “Almost Anything Goes” showed the hidden talents that various students possess. These assemblies brought about a nice break from the routine and demonstrated the versatility and creativity of our student body. Winter Assemblies 69 Mere words cannot describe these two. The student can study any one of 46 programs offered including Industrial Electronics, Commercial Art, Horticulture, Legal Secretary, Medical Assistant, Diesel Mechanics, Drafting, Cosmetology, and many others. The student’s total school day at “The Joint” is centered on his vocational program, except for forty-five minutes of academic studies. After graduation, 85% of the students are working in the job areas they were trained in, jobs not normally available without college or technical school. The JVS student is also involved with vocational clubs, such as VICA, which sponsors activities like their national skill competitions. There are over one-hundred students who finely represent West Carrollton among the 2300 students who attend MCJVS. The 200 acre MCJVS complex itself is one of the largest vocational schools in the country. The students practically run the complex, doing jobs from electrical repair to food service during lunch. JVS offers a person the opportunity to learn a skill, to find a job he likes doing, while still going to high school. Kay Preston Environmental Sci. They sponsored the Family Feud assembly and a candy sale. The two activities combined made almost 1,000 dollars for the Junior Class. In October, the juniors received first place for their homecoming float. The juniors showed their spirit by decorating the junior lounge at Homecoming (receiving second place), and at Christmas. In the spring, the class organized several softball games and picnics. The junior officers played an important role in the Junior-Senior Prom. Throughout the year, these activities have brought the junior class closer together, and they are also looking forward to an outstanding senior year. The officers would like to thank their advisor, Peggy Aracri, for all of her help. The 1979-1980 junior class officers are: President — Rhonda Chapman, Vice-President — Mary Tracy, Secretary — Jenny Powell, Treasurer — Bridgett Zennie, Senators — Kevin Clay, Bob Mott, Patti Streisel, and Cathy Werley. West Carrollton 859-4313 Advertisements 239 Encore This is the final page of the script. The curtain falls again on another performance, another year, another yearbook. Only the faint echo of the laughter, the music, the applause now fills the hallways and the auditorium. This production of the school year, 1979-80, was filled with comedy and tragedy, the two elements composing the very essence of the theater and life. For the classes of ’81 and ’82, it is back to the same theater next year for another performance, only this time opening in a different play. For the class of ’80, the high school drama is over, and they will be moving on to a new city, a new theater, and a new play. The reviews hail this past performance as an acclaimed success, the cast a talented company. Now, the houselights have dimmed, the theater stands in stilled silence, a shadowy silhouette awaiting its next opening night. If any member of the audience feels compelled to give this play a standing ovation, and yell, “Encore, Encore”, then all he must do is turn back to the front cover, the front page of the script, and live this drama all over again. The crowd will settle in, the cast will once again take to the stage and find their places, the orchestra will begin the overture, the house-lights will brighten, and each of us in our own special way, will applaud the return engagement, the encore of 1979-80, and give it life. 240 — Ken McCollum f FORMER FIRST LADY DIES - Mamie Eisenhower holds up a campaign button for her husband President Dwight Eisenhower at a San Francisco show in 1956.
