And that's exactly what a lot of people chose to do this year. The school was the scene of some real get down and boogie dances throughout the school year. The dances ranged from the late after game dances to the romantic Christmas dance, to the sixth period 50's day dance. On the night of November 3rd came the annual powderpuff game with underclassmen up against the seniors. The game started with each team's captain representing her team at the coin toss. The game was exciting but the time finally ran out, and for the first time in history, the mighty juniors and sophomores took the traditional victory away from the seniors, by upsetting them 12-6. Grand Marshall, Al Carroll kept dry in his car as the Disney on Parade proceeded. Weeks of hard work and planning paid off, especially for the Seniors, who won first place, for the third year. Other honors went to the Spanish Club and Junior class. Before an exciting game with Miamisburg, the Homecoming Court was presented. It started with Sophomore Attendants: Trish Payne and Teresa Ward; Junior Attendants, Cheryl Wilkins and Shelly Pierce followed. The announcer, Terri Leist, then introduced the Senior Court. Attendants: Mark Westfall and Barbie Sorrell; Mike Juenger and Kim Townsend. The climax of the pre-game activities was the crowning of our 1976-77 Homecoming King Dave Huesman and Queen Brenda Broer-nian. After a rival victory, everyone hurried home to prepare for the Homecoming Dance. The Dance was a huge success and a perfect ending for a perfect day. Homecoming-October 9, 1976- Disney on Parade. Homeicihiii 55 IDITOEft Merry Christmas The spirit of Christmas was something that even Scrooge couldn't spoil. Assemblies, parties and Jolly old Santa Claus helped to lighten and brighten the hearts of the students at West Carrollton High. The days before the vacation break were filled with music by the student council, homey scenes in the library, parties for the kiddies in the home ec rooms, and hard work on Operation Share Christmas. Yes, indeed, the spirit of the yuletide season made the school, students, and faculty glow with good cheer and well wishes. 60 TOP, LEFT TO RIGHT, Kay Huesman Janet Brown enjoy sitting in the lounge while skipping class. Winter in West Carrollton was certainly a winter to remember. 13 inches of snow and a record breaking -21 resulted in what seemed like more vacation days than school days for West Carrollton students. The days off were put into good use as crowds of students inched their way to Suicide Hill, then down the icy slopes straight to Kettering Hospital. Despite the dangers winter brings, it's still a time for cozy fires, friendly snowball fights, and the warm, warm anticipation of spring. IDENTIFIED CLOCKWISE-D. Johnson, A. Alfred, and J. A warm romantic night March 30th, with the gym in disguise and guys in tuxes and girls in formals, was the setting for this year's prom. Precious and Few was the theme and indeed it was. Much hard work was put into prom with months of preparation. The gym was then closed two weeks before and all the glitters were placed. Tables surrounded the dance floor which was always packed when the band Young Approach was playing slow or boogie music. But the prom wasn't just over after the dance and dinner. June 6 was more than just another day in the year to us. For our seniors, it was the last senior class meeting . For our juniors and sophomores, it was one step closer. Beyond being our commencement day, it was a day when excitement and emotions peakecf. The speeches of our fellow students, Paul Alquist, Marcia Gyourko, and Dave Huesman, made each of us realize that these people on the stage are the leaders of our future. This realization brought the pride and anticipation out in each of us. The senior class gifts to Mrs. Law and Mr. Pack brought forth the emotion of sadness; for even though commencement is the beginning of a new life, it is also the ending of an old one. As the senior class president, Mary Hitchcock, presented gifts to our exchange students, Bertha and Mirian, there were again mixed emotions; the happiness of knowing these wonderful people, and the sadness that goodbye alwavs brings. Yes, June the sixth was a day for emotion, and why not? After three years of high school witn many people that you love so well, it is definitely an occasion to let yourself go! 87 Grads SWRGS 94 Our Seniors will be missed. It started out on a hot August day, and ended four months later in victory. The 6-4 record qave the Pirates a third place finish in the Miami Central Conference. The biggest win of the season was the win over Fairborn Park Hills. The Pirates shattered the Vikings chances of a perfect season with a 28-14 victory. Another highlight was the exciting Homecoming victory over Miamisburg. The Pirates finished their season with three consecutive victories over Trotwood, Fairborn Park Hills, and Sidney. Coach Norris had these comments on the season. This particular group of seniors did finish out their three years with 19 wins and 11 losses. I think the squad knew throughout the year they were a good football team. Once they realized that you can't win games with fumbles and penalties, they were the best team in the league the last part of the season. It was a balanced effort from all the classes on the starting offense and defense. Also, I think the team did a fantastic job of taking up the slack where there key injuries. Overall, the coaches would like to express their thanks and congratulations to an exciting and fantastic finish. Our seniors will be missed, but thanks to their leadership it will help us toward another good year. ■ Congratulations are also in order to Mike Juenger for being named to the Miami Central Conference first team and to the Greater Dayton second team. Mike Lewis and John Wills were named to the Miami Central Conference second team. Congratulations also go to the entire football team for a really super season. f ut thanks to their Leadership, FIRST ROW: Dennis Michael, John Wills, Tim Perry, Rick Gray, Bob Bickert, Mike Juenger, Gary Helmick, Keith Cole, Dave Cope. The team lost some close games early in the season that could have gone either way. Bob Helmick led the reserve team with over 800 yards total offense. If not for an injury, he could have been the first reserve back to gain over 1,000 yards rushing, but had to sit out for four games. Curt Bissett led the reserve team in tackles with 65, and also had two interceptions. The four Pirate wins were over Northmont, 24-7; Piqua, 24-0; Miamisburg, 24-8; and a big win over Fairborn Baker 44-0. 97 The Lady Pirates tennis team finished 7th in M.C.C. with a 2-10 record, bettering themselves over last year's record. Team captains this year were, Dianne Brenner and Charlotte Childers. Sandy Bell was chosen as M.V.P. and Suntary Ith Scholar Athlete. Their duties at West Carrollton High School range from painting signs and planning assemblies to decorating the locker room and actually cheering for the teams. One thing is for sure, these girls play an important part in the Athletic Department and to the student body. 141 142 If you ever saw girls running around school in black sweaters with a W.C. letters on them, it was probably a Wrestlerette. JOINT VOCATIONAL SCHOOL The Joint Vocational School was home for seventy-seven West Carrollton students. We were represented in thirty-two different programs, from aircraft mechanics to welding. of competing at the international level. J.V.S. students showed their generosity by contributing several thousand dollars to the muscular dystrophy fund. In addition to class work, there were activities to join for fun. All students are involved in a club that is related to their vocational course. One of the highlights of the year is the skill competition that is held on the local, regional, and state levels. There is even the possibility Bobbie Jo Andronaco was honored by being elected Queen of the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. She represented J.V.S. at regional and state functions.
