On the morning of October 11, the parade began with Grand Marshall, Mr. Irvin Ray waving proudly to the crowd. Colorful floats lined the streets, showing off their brilliant colors, and the hard work that had been put into them. Awards went to: The Junior Class for 1st; A.F.S. for 2nd; and the Band for 3rd. The game that afternoon against Tecum-seh High School was hard fought. Though West Carrollton lost, (14-13), the spirit was still there. Saturday evening the students of W.C. and their dates, had an evening of fun and dancing. The dimly lit, decorated little gym gave the atmosphere a lift even higher. Couples had a good time. Homecoming, as always, was a success. TOP FAR LEFT: Majorettes Penny Starnes and Donna Bogan stand at attention during Homecoming assembly. TOP LEFT: Sherry Clark- after being named Homecoming queen. Student Council's major accomplishment of the 1975-1976 school year, was the reconstruction of the Student Council. Council members, led by President Chris Horner, decided to change the structure of the Student Council for future members. There will no longer be District Representatives, instead, club and organization presidents will be members of the council. A smaller council will be composed of the president, vice-president, and senators of each class, and will meet weekly. A larger council composed of the small council and club presidents, will meet monthly. In a letter published by Chris Homer, she said, I feel good about what we have done and wish great success to next year's council. Remember, an organization is only as strong as it's weakest member. 85 GETTING HIGH WITH 1976 Piratan Staff Co- Editors............ Business Manager . . . . Advisor................ While 387 graduating Seniors and Juniors practiced in the gym, good ole Mr. Huffman was up front shouting out sayings like- Arm and arm and , or Keep it going! We'll be here till I think you've got it! Though it was hot and sticky, everyone did a pretty good job. The class was a little shaky on some things, (like the removal of the caps), but everyone would find out at the Honors Assembly the next day. The Honors Assembly went smoothly. The Seniors marched in, took their places and participated in receiving and presenting awards. After the class marched out, the Junior class of '77 ran over to the Senior side of the gym to take their places as the next Senior class at West Carrollton. At the same time, the graduates-to-be went out partying at places such as Walhdrue Park, Hueston Woods, and Glen Helen. On Sunday, June 6, 1976, Baccalaureate services were held in the gym, with Rev. Robert E. Butcher giving the sermon. The choir sang the hymn 'Old Irish Blessing,' and the Senior choir members sang 'The Lord Bless You And Keep You'. (Under the direction of Mr. Patterson) The tenseness of graduating was getting to the Seniors. β lure Monday, June 7, 1976, the Seniors marched into the NCR Auditorium so proud to be the class of '76. Taking their seats in front of the audience and going through the exercise, the Seniors knew it was only moments before they were really graduates. While receiving their diplomas from Mrs. Russell and Mrs. Mann, the Seniors knew that this was what graduation was all about. Wrestlerettes Make the Difference Painting good luck signs, making locker decorations, and selling wrestling programs are just part of the things wrestlerettes do. The main job of a wrestlerette is to promote and give lots of spirit to the wrestlers. At the beginning of the season, the wrestlerettes had a big turn out, but it went down to less than half of the beginning membership. Nevertheless, they had a spirited year with the change of wearing uniforms. Hoarse voices and worn-out hands proves that wrestlerettes had a great season. Wrestlerettes had great leadership this year with Jana Dunn as President, Donna Crone-wett as Vice-President, Patty Kneer as Secretary, and Kim Westray as Treasurer. Their advisor is Coach Thayer. 160 161 Penny Starnes 1975-1976 Liz Hery 162 Donna Bogan 163 TOP ROW: S. Justice, V. Blackstone, L. Middleton, A. Pearson, K. Cooper, K. Marsh, D Taylor, J. Glass, D. Every year there are changes in our cheerleaders, whether it be one or two graduating or some new ones coming in. No matter what the changes are, one thing is for sure-they're great! The girls stay after school practicing their routines so they will be just perfect to perform at our next game or pep assembly, and so the team will know we're behind them all the way to root them on to a victory. Even when the guys lose, the cheerleaders are always there to cheer them on and even occasionally to cheer them up. No matter where the teams go, the girls are there to let the opposition know that West Carrollton is there and ready to fight. We have the spirit and power to win. 167 sjomnp β
