s . . I all0I'l Mr. S. Erick Benson PRINCIPAL Dear Graduates: ll The time has now come for an accounting. It is proper at this point, one of the great transition periods of your life, to take stock I of where you've been, what you know and what you don't know, :I and where you're going. fl Jazz great, W. C. Handy, has said: 'pl Life's like this trumpet. If you don't put nothing in, you don't II get nothing out. I And so, as you move on to the world of work or the world of higher ideas, like Mr. Handy and his trumpet, you should look at yourself clearly and decide just how much you've put in. Have you done the studying that is required to provide the strong foundation on which your future is to be built? Do you under- stand the physical sciences, history, literature, mathematical ap- plication, or how your government works? Have you mastered another language and have you prepared yourself for success in business? Are you ready to enter the trades? I If you cannot answer all of the questions positively - and I know of no one who can - your course is clear. You simply have to put more in, into lifelong learning and into lifelong doing. I., Years from now, as you look back, you will be able to measure fl your success not by the dollars you may have made, but by the friends you have made. The measure of a person is seldom their l material success - what they have taken out of the world - but I is always what they've put in. By virtue of your graduation, you are now telling the world that you are ready to start. Apply what I you've learned and leave the world a better, more just place than it -I was when you came into it. My best wishes. Very truly yours, 7755! J.
