MASSACHUSETTS 02379 vstzvuouss ooruin A rss sn 55, ,gn suvzmnvz os 1 or scnoors 5,5 50,7 TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1979: Congratulations on your graduation from West Bridgewater High School. In addition, I thank you for the numerous fine contributions that so many of you have made during your years in your Town's public schools. The contributions I speak of include, but are not limited to: the earning of academic honors, participating in stage presentations, serving on committees, working on the Climber and other publications, playing in the band, and involvement with athletics. The above are the obvious and more noticeable activities. However, I also wish to indicate the appreciation of all the staff members, during your recent twelve years, for many additional achievements, some of which you, yourselves, are not aware of. I refer to the efforts made by so many of you to cooperate with your teachers, by: accepting responsibilities completing assignments, supporting and working on school activities, observing the rules, and, perhaps most of all, acting in a mature fashion at school functions and when you represent the School at events in this and other communities. It is this last that is so reassuring to your fellow townspeople. Often, we have had compliments paid on behalf of students who have participated in programs in the town and elsewhere. Although we must never ignore the need for graduates to master basic skills and hopefully higher pro- ficiency in the academics, we must not lose sight of the importance of our students acquiring attitudes and habits that will help them to under- stand and aid the world beyond high school. Success in whatever field you may enter, be it further schooling, business, industry, or establishing your own home, is now more possible, thanks to the efforts of yourselves, your parents, teachers, and all others, who have contributed in some way to make your graduation a reality. Do not let it stop here, though, if you think as I feel most of you do, that it was worth the effort. Accept your new responsibility to make certain that similar opportunities continue to be available for younger brothers and sisters and your own children in the not too distant future. You will help to assist in their preparation for later life by such simple, yet important, activities, as: voting, attending town meetings, and serving on town committees. In conclusion, on behalf of your schools and their staffs, I wish you good health, happiness, and God bless you all. erely, IKAI x15 Donald A. Fisher Superintendent of Schools HIGH SCHOGL ADMI I TRATIO -as Eff R E hdn Benson Principal To the Members of the Class of 1979: R I write these words of congratulations and encouragement ,a new controversy is at the forefront of public school education. Leaving behind a host of other issues, the focus is now on the high school diploma. The question most commonly debated is, HDoes the presentation of a diploma signal academic achievement and acquired skills or is it merely representative of school attendance?H. At this juncture in your life you can probably best answer this question. Reflecting upon the past twelve years, you might ask yourself the following: HDid I take full advantage of the academic opportunities offered?H, nDid I assume a leadership role?H, UDid I participate in school activities? However you answer, it is my sincere wish that the objectives of West Bridgewater High School have been met for you, thereby rendering your diploma meaningful and useful. As individual members of the Class of l979, I offer to you my warmest congratulations upon your graduation. May God bless you with good health, happiness, and success in your future endeavors. T0 TH CLASS OF 1979: when I became assistant principal at West Bridgewater High School, you were eighth graders. Since I have followed you longer than any other class,eI feel that you are my first graduating class. I have watched you progress through school and have come to know many of you personally. Although a high school diploma does not guarantee success in today's world, it is a foundation upon which you can build. Upon the completion now go out into the or to enter the job I have enjoyed and success in your of your Public School education, you will world either to further your education market. knowing you and wish all of you happiness future.
