SPERANDIO To Mr. Peter J. Sperandio, who has served as our advisor and part-time parent, we, the Class of 1959, gratefully dedicate the Climber. One of the duties of parenthood is discipline, but it is only a small, unpleasant part of Mr. Sperandio's duties. Through the years he has lent to this and other classes invaluable advice and assistance. Looking backward, we realize that Mr. Sperandio, by his own high standard, has inspired us to reach for higher goals, that We, too, might gain the respect and honor that are his. When we were born were were like a fresh discovery of iron ore. In childhood our ore was refined. Now we are near the final stage. As adolescents and youths we shall be tempered and made ready for the form which we shall no doubt retain for the rest of our lives. These steps, however, are but a simple outline of a much more complex process. Just as heat, ma- terials, and time affect the quality of steel, so many factors are important in our own develop- ment. Our parents and our community have definitely influenced the molding of our char- acter. Because of the fine personal, historical. and educational influences in OUR TOWN, we can feel reasonably optimistic about our future. Thank you, West Bridgewater, for the shape and temper you have given us. 9 Q ot' XXWX E1 CJ UUUUUUU ' I I U Q' v ,ds 7 ff!! TO THE CLASS OF 1959 OF WEST BRIDGEWATER HIGH SCHOOL You, the Class of 1959, have again demonstrated a great measure of appreciation by selecting Our Town as the theme for your Climber. This is a fitting tribute to the town which did so much to help mold your early years so that you may profit in later life. The lessons you have learned will bring to you richer and more enjoyable lives. At times, perhaps, you did not under- stand the wisdom behind these lessons, but I am sure that you will in the future. - I sincerely believe that you who have lived in West Bridge- water certainly must appreciate its clean, wholesome living, the respect for law and order which prevails, and the good training and education which you received through the com- bined efforts of the school, the home, and the churches. We know, too. that you, the Class of 1959, will follow many others into the world to demonstrate the fine lessons learned in Our Town. Good luck and may God be with you. Peter J. There's an urgency acting upon the senior in the realiza- tion of impending responsibilities in work or further education. He has been consider- ably sobered by the disillusionments of earlier years. Upon him are placed important re- sponsibility and opportunity. He feels the challenge of unachieved goals. Seniors re- spond to these conditions in varying degrees. One may apply himself primarily to his studies, another may take a greater interest in extracurricular activities, and still another may have no important school interests. The changing experiences of a single day have great importance. At times, these changes are unfavorable, and thus there's often grief to balance the joys of the senior. For example, there is the unhappiness of lost dignity. After disregarding the importance Do you think he'll ask us anything we've studied? of maturity, a senior feels sharp regret. He anticipates the sadness of friendships to be severed soon after graduation. And for the senior there must always be the grief of fail- ures in scholarship or athletics, failures for which there isn't the remedy of another year in which to do better. But sadness is always accompanied by opportunities for happiness. A senior's sense of accomplishment is a source of wholesome satisfaction. He is thankful also in receiving respect and sympathy given only to his class. And moreover, he trusts with a confident and enlightened faith in a wonderful and successful future. It's for this future that a senior studies to be ready, becomes tired and rests, plans and dreams of years to come, and finally leaves his school, going out into the world to be of use and to prepare for seniors yet to be.
