EDITORIAL We, the class of 1955, have come to the end of one phase of our life-our high school days. During these past four years, we have learned, labored, and laughed and have solved many problems from mathematical to philosophical. One insoluble enigma which has always intrigued me is the meaning of The Climberfl I have come to the conclusion that it can be either or both of two things g it can be an inspirational title urging us on to greater and better things, or it can be referring to the ivy which grew on the old Howard High School, covering more of the building year after year. It is for each one of us to form his own opinion on this question. The ivy on the old building grew progressively skyward, always reaching higher for sunlight. Perhaps The Climber means that we, too, should always reach for higher ideals. Then again, the title may have resulted from the inspiration received from having read such a poem as Gradatim', written by Josiah Gilbert Holland. The first two verses clearly point out that we must go on to greater things and never be satisfied with what we have done. GRADATIM H eazerz is riot reacbed at a Jilzgle bourzdg But we bzzild tbe ladder by wbifb we rife From tbe lowly eartb to tbe zazzlted rkier, Arid u'e mourzt to its Jzimmit rourzd b y roztrzd. I foznzt Ibis tbirzg to be grarzdly true: Tbat a noble deed if a Jtep toward God, Lifting tbe foul from tbe ronzmoiz flod To a pzzrer air and a broader view. As we, the members of the class of 1955, go our separate ways, may each one of us follow those ideals in which he believes and, thereby, bring about for him- self a happy and prosperous life.
