09' JUNE C. CARLSON Editor-ifz-Chief EDITORIAL As we, the Class of 1954, complete this phase of our life, we can look back over twelve years of fun and laughter, of learning and work. We have looked forward many times to this particular date: the day when we should have passed on to the greater things which lie ahead. Those of us for whom this day will mark the end of formal education must now face a greater reality and realize that our successes now depend not upon learning academic subjects, but in assessing ourselves as to our abilities and weaknesses and in developing ourselves as best we can in the light of what we have already learned and in the, perhaps, more stern lessons of the world about us. We must do'those things which will bring honor to ourselves and our community. Those of us who are not yet through with formal education, those of us who are planning to further our education at a higher level, must also assess ourselves, but in a different way, We must take that which we already know and apply it to some field in which we can best serve humanity, a field in which success is not necessarily measured in terms of the dollar sign, but in the amount of peace of mind and contentment of soul which it will bring us. Then, we must intensify our study in those subjects which will best fit us for our chosen task. We realize fully that our graduation will be in all truth but a commencement. In our high school years we have made a beginning, a good beginning as we see it, and are ready now for the larger and heavier tasks which await our energies.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE To the Class of 1954: In all your undertakings, try to remember that your first duty is that of a good citizen. As such, you have direct obligations to your family, your country, and your God. These obligations may, at times, appear very difficult. However, the knowledge and skills which you acquired and the personality which you developed will be great factors in meeting these demands. Do not become discouraged if you do not achieve your goals quickly. There is no short cut to success. Be content with your daily status as you go through life and with faith, patience, and perseverance you will find those objectives which you seek. May I extend to you, the Class of 1954, my very best wishes for your future happiness and success. Sincerely, Principal
