155711 fu- Q. To Miss Janice Rylander we proudly dedicate this issue of the West Bridgewater High School yearbook The Climber. For her con- tinued interest in and support of all our activities from the Proms and plays to the sports contests, we wish to express our appreciation in this small way. Her unfailing encouragement throughout our four years of high school has meant much to us and will not soon be forgotten.

PREFACE In this issue of The Climber, we, the Class of 1954, portray some of the out- standing events of our school life. A year- book represents many things: here in these pages stand revealed the realization of fond hopes, the pride of achievement through hard work, the fun and happiness of our more carefree hours, and, perhaps, even the nearer understanding of life gained from lessons and the associations with our fellows. For each division of the book makes clear that many people have had an indispensable part in making our four years what they have been to us. We trust that all of you, seeing yourself pic- tured here, will be reminded of our heart- felt appreciation. And, finally, our year- book is a summation of our high school years, the rich fabric out of which may come many useful lives. 09' JUNE C. CARLSON Editor-ifz-Chief EDITORIAL As we, the Class of 1954, complete this phase of our life, we can look back over twelve years of fun and laughter, of learning and work. We have looked forward many times to this particular date: the day when we should have passed on to the greater things which lie ahead. Those of us for whom this day will mark the end of formal education must now face a greater reality and realize that our successes now depend not upon learning academic subjects, but in assessing ourselves as to our abilities and weaknesses and in developing ourselves as best we can in the light of what we have already learned and in the, perhaps, more stern lessons of the world about us. We must do'those things which will bring honor to ourselves and our community. Those of us who are not yet through with formal education, those of us who are planning to further our education at a higher level, must also assess ourselves, but in a different way, We must take that which we already know and apply it to some field in which we can best serve humanity, a field in which success is not necessarily measured in terms of the dollar sign, but in the amount of peace of mind and contentment of soul which it will bring us. Then, we must intensify our study in those subjects which will best fit us for our chosen task. We realize fully that our graduation will be in all truth but a commencement. In our high school years we have made a beginning, a good beginning as we see it, and are ready now for the larger and heavier tasks which await our energies.
