The booster Club working with the facility :uid administration proposed that ll Chief ofthe Wui't'ioi's be elected by the student body. The honor of being Chief is the higliest honor which the student hody can bestow on il fellow student. This student is the president of the student body :uid therefore, the Chief should represent the finest quulities of our school ut both public :md school functions. The responsibilities of the Chief of the XY:1i'rio1's include: assisting the cheerleudersg leading the Wurriors onto the field at footbzlll games :md into the gymnasium :lt husketbaill games: und oem-:tsionzilly :uldressing the student body ut il rally or formul assembly. The duties ol' the Chief lllillif' it impossible for him to be il football or basketball pluyer. This honor ol' being Chief is reserved for members of the Senior Class, The dzxy ol' the imluetion ceremony wats one filled with suspense. The student body entered the gymnasium :intl took their pluees on the floor uround the campfire. The four candidates - Gary Wulf, llob liirksey. .Xlton Merrell, ond Dzive Bedell - dressed as Indian warriors, sat solemnly uwuitinpg the eltoiee. Mr. Corll held the coup stick high. :ind ut :11'm's length. gripped by ezteh of the four wurriors competing for the position of chief. Mr. Corll relensetl his hold on the stiek :ind stepped to the rear ofthe contending warriors. llc eliminuted two of the wxtrriors by striking exielt ll hezivy blow on the shoulder, Lifter which they l'einoi'ed their hands from the stick. The two warriors remaining, Bob liirkseyzmd Dave Bedell, represented the Chief :ind alternate. The next blow eliminated lluve Redell. The new Chief of the Warriors, Bob Kirksey, wus left holding the eoup stielt, Shouts of joy filled the gymnasium, expressing the satisfaction of the student body in their choice ot' xi Chief. The wur bonnet wats plueed on the Chief's heud. . . . displaying newly purchased Warrior Chief costume.
