SECRETARIES Beverly Krupa, Sally Holt, Mitzi Kirk Faculty 13 COOKS AND CUSTODIA S Irene Walker, Dorothey Peters, Elsie Merrow, Abigal English, Ruth Miller JERRY WAITE 14 Cooks and Custodians JUNE MARTIN Our West Branch cooks take on the tremen- dous task of feeding the starving masses that file through the cafeteria daily, ready to devour any- thing edible. With courteous and efficient service they, calm the mobs and keep them well fed. The custodians with faithful service both during and after school have kept in good repair what has suffered the constant rigors of student use. It is for this fine service that we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to both the custo- dians and the cooks. 2 lei MANSE DAVIS New PEARL PETERS mfg. ODE TO E IORS Back in our first days here we would walk through the doors scared to death of everything. The teachers scared you, but after you had them and the year was through you even missed them. You would walk past the cafe on a Friday after school and wonder how it had made it through another week of us - will I ever eat a pocket sandwich again? Did you ever walk through the halls alone and think that this is really where we grew up? We had fun times - all the joys, sor- rows, laughs, and even cries we shared with one another. We grew up together, and helped each other with problems that weren't even ours. It was so easy to talk about just anything. How we waited for the things to prove our seniority: the prom, class rings, senior pictures: but, most of all, fellowship. Of course we all had our problems and spats, but it always seemed they couldn't last too long with the people we've known for the biggest part of our lives. Pretty soon these halls, the good old cafe, our lockers, class rings, proms, and sporting events will be a part of our past. No longer will we be walking in and out the same doors together. We will all be going our own ways: parted to pursue our own goals alone. We will no longer be struggling for the same goal together - becoming seniors. We have to go our own ways and make individuals of ourselves. All the things we once shared will just be memories - sad, happy, sorrowful, even bad: but, no matter which, they are from the past. All the screams and yells we gave to support our classmates at one time or another will be over. Why is it we can grow up together, but we can't grow old together? . . . Some people say that seniors are show-offs and think they're great. Well, we do. Some day, when you make it, you'll be exactly the same. You see, we have to be that way to make it. Deep down we all have the same fear we did when we first walked in those doors six years ago - the fear of leaving the past and starting a future. Many Juniors found out that they became more involved in school, club, and sport- ing activities than they ever were beforeg and they also met many more friends. They are the first freshmen ever to appear in the yearbook. Now upon the upper level of the junior high aristocracy they will only have to face being at the bottom of the ladder again as sophomores. But this is a ladder that must be climbed by everyone. Give me the ball I Who's on first? Girls softball is a very popular sport that usually attracts about 150 girls every spring. Because of this, a J .V. team and a Freshman team were formed in order to allow more girls to actively participate. The 1980 team had only three lettermen as its backbone, after having an undefeated league record and going to the state championships in Shippen- burg. Although the team record was only 3-12, the girls worked hard and look forward to a great season this year, with 9 returning lettermen, and a new softball field. Look Mom, I missed. Beginning with a game over-shadowed by the threat of a teachers' strike, the Warriors reeled off nine consecutive losses. Trying to not make it sound like looking for excuses, it should be noted the opposition was usually strong this season, with only Mo Valley having a losing record of these nine opponents. So it looked quite gloomy on the evening before the P-O game. After all, the Warriors had only beaten the Mounties once in 25 years and never on enemy turf. But a high-spir- ited bonfire on the eve before the game got the adrenalin flowing and the ultimate happened, with the Warriors down- ing the Mounties by an 8-6 score. A most happy ending to a discouraging season. Under the watchful eyes of an abundance of advisors, notably Miss Pearce, Mr. Petrunak, and Mr. Rodg- ers. the staff worked long and hard hours to give the yearbook a new look. lt was also determined that in the absence of the Editor-in-Chief that skateboards and yearbook work do not mix. An overly-ambitious staff even took on another task when it printed a Christmas Edition of THE ARROW, which was out of publication for five years. All in all, the staff did a great job, and upon the completion of this publication, many members turn their attention to a new beginning, namely the 1982 yearbook. ROW 1: Thomas A.
