Fond memories of our childhood days pass by, And we smile as we recall our first day of school. 6 7 The friends who were always there to inspire us, to help us, and to love us will never be forgotten. 9 DEDICATION OF THE 1982 LION’S ROAR The dedication of a yearbook is always very special to many people. Much time and careful consideration is put into choosing someone for this honor. This year, the honor is given to a person who has been an exceptional friend, as well as an understanding teacher. Her many hours of hard work and patience have not gone unnoticed. Our love and many thanks go out to Mrs. Marsha Hudson, who has helped to make our high school years so memorable. 11 Slowly and proudly we turn as the door gently closes behind us. 12 Full of hope we take a step forward . . . “No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings. As you leave your high school years behind it is appropriate that you pause for a moment to reflect upon your immediate past in an effort to gain an appreciation for who you are and where you have been. Many of you in the years ahead will be successful, will find fame and fortune, and few perhaps will even leave a mark of significance upon our world. I hope, however, that you will al- ways retain enough humility to re- member the love and support of your parents when things went badly, and the expectations and discipline of your teachers who cared enough over the last twelve years to settle for nothing less than your very best. In the years ahead, you will be called upon to return a little of what you have been so fortunate to receive. I hope, regardless of how successful or important that you become, that you will always have time for others who need you and that you will never forget those who reached out to help you as you stumbled along during your early years. Be caring and giving people, Class of ’82, and you will find the kind of happi- ness and contentment that money can never acquire. Best wishes for happiness, health, and success throughout your lives. Mr. Leo Sullivan 70 Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Nancy Smith TO THE CLASS OF 1982: As you read your yearbook, you have now com- pleted your course of studies at West Boylston Junior-Senior High School. I am sure the years have been pleasant and you will take with you fond memories and a positive attitude as you enter the next phase of your young life. It has been a pleasant and rewarding experience for myself, the administrators, and the staff to have had you as a class. You have carried on the tradition of the classes before you by your academic achieve- ments, participation in your class and school activi- ties, and total involvement in the school program. As you leave high school, you are entering a future of great promise and excitement. Also, a world with complex problems, anxiety, uncertainty, and great changes due to technological advancements. The challenges you face are real, but not insoluble. Having had the opportunity to be associated with your class, I am confident you are prepared and have the ability to face these challenges. You will mature and grow, and my greatest reward is the realization that you will succeed. On behalf of the administration and faculty, sincere best wishes to each and every one of you in your future en- deavors. Carlton J. Activities ranged from softball and races to the dunking of various students and teachers in the Dunking Booth. Overall, this day was a splendid success. 86 87 HOMECOMING ACTIVITIES The annual Homecoming was held the week of September 28, 1981. Each day there were various events ranging from pushing peanuts down the corridor with one ' s nose to dress- ing up in the styles of the 20’s, 50’s, 60’s, and the year 2000 . On Friday, the Pep Rally was held in the gym. The Punk Rock Contest, won by the Class of ’ 83 , was the highlight of our week. On Saturday our various varsity sports contests took place. 88 HOMECOMING DANCE On Saturday evening , the Homecoming Dance was held in the W.B.H.S. gym. The court included Irene Desroches, Kelly Avery, Kathleen Mahoney, Kim Akins, Erin Mahoney, Darlene DiBara, and Merri Robinson. The 1981 Homecoming Queen was Mary Beth Fulginiti. A good time was enjoyed by all who attended this event. 90 MUSICAL The 1981 musical, South Pacific, was performed on March 19 and 20. Kathleen Mahoney starred as Nellie Forbush, and Matt Colangelo was Emile de Becque. Tony Barsamian kept the audience laughing as Luther Billis, and Jamie Bartlett was Bloody Mary. Everyone in the cast had a great time, and the show was a splendid success. 92 JUNIOR PROM The Class of 1982 held their Junior Prom on May 8, 1981, at The Old Mill in Westminster. The Court included Kate Sweetman , Deborah Bor- ci, Mary-Anne Been, and Melissa Berg. Mr. O ' Connor crowned JoAnn Pelligrini as our Prom Queen. 94 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Election to the National Honor Society is based upon a student’s scholarship , leadership , character, and service. These four criteria are in accordance with the National Standards of the Society. On April 6, 1981, eleven members of the Class of 1982 were inducted into the National Honor Society. These students were Terrilynn Bahn, Natalie Barton, Matthew Colangelo, Diane Cronin, Irene Desroches, Mary Beth Fulginiti, David Hall , Matthew Heint- zelman, Lynn Labossiere, Lori Morris, and Judy Richinick. There was an additional group of Seniors added during the following school year. 96 1981 KAMEHAMEHA GLEE CLUB TOUR I ' ▼ou MMiHAMEHA GLEE CLUB On June 17-19, 1981, West Boylston was the host town for a group of stu- dents from the Kamehameha School System in Honolulu, Hawaii. The students enjoyed everything from various sights in our vicinity to a trip to the Old Sturbridge Village. On Thursday night of their three day stay, they entertained the townspeo- ple by putting on a concert. The beautiful costumes and dancing, along with the singing, will not be forgotten for a long time. Although their stay was short, friendships were made that will last a lifetime. 97 THE SENIOR BALL “Turn the Page” 98 “THE MOUSE THAT ROARED” The Class of 1982 put on their Class Play, under the direction of Mr. Steven White, the nights of December 11 12, 1981. The team was very dedicated, though, led by Senior Cap- tain, Matt Colangelo, and never once gave up. It was a tough season and the Lions lost some real heartbreakers. Still they came back each week with more enthusiasm and desire to win. The Junior Varsity team compiled a rec- ord of 2-5. 104 Row 1: J. Bump, M. Shepard, P. Bel- sito, T. Papandrea, M. Schofield, M. The 1981-1982 BOYS’ VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM, led by Senior Co- captains Eric Johnson and Doug Gray promised to be the best team since Coach Jim Diamantopoulos took over the team four years ago. The height of Doug Gray, Ernie Pappanastos, and Paul Wren combined with the outside shooting of Jimmy Watkins and Eric Johnson gave the team a balanced offense that led the team to a very success- ful season. 117 GIRLS’ VARSITY BASKET BALL The 1981-1982 GIRLS’ BASKETBALL team has a lot of experience and enthu- siasm. If it were not for the unceasing patience, determination, and dedication of our advisor, Mrs. Sharron Hubbard, our task would never have been accomplished. Mrs. Hubbard gave us the encourage- ment that we needed when things did not go right and also the praise that we deserved when our job was finished. Again, many thanks!! We would also like to take this time to thank the following people for their hard work on the 1982 Lion’s Roar: Alison Ackert, Divider Pages and Cover, Irene Desroches, Mary Fulginiti, and Patty Fallon, Underclass section. Matt Heintzelman and Matt Colangelo, Advertising, Terri Bahn, Prologue Poem, and Robin Bagdis, Kristin Knoeb- ber, Sharon Murphy, Susan Lindberg, and Liisa Tarkianin, Typing. Again, many thanks for a job well done. When one first looks at a yearbook, they do not think of the hard work and exceptional amount of time that has gone into producing it. Without the efforts and expertise of Mr. Edward Bouvier, Matt Lavoie, and Mr. Winthrop Handy, our task could never have been completed. Their many hours of not only taking pictures, but also spending late nights in the darkroom making sure that everything was just perfect, have not gone unnoticed. Many thanks to all of you who have made the 1982 Lion’s Roar so special. — Lori Natalie. BOOSTERS JB, mon petit chou chou — Thanks for the beautiful memories!
