property of feamatt ilmnriai Pttblir Utbrarg West Boylston, Mass. Presented by Class of 1981 Received June 1981 No. So many dreams we had to dream. . . 2 Traveling down the road of experience 6 L_ . . .learning about ourselves along the way. 7 Inspiring each other, 8 Although we will go our separate ways. . . 11 DEDICATION It is with appreciation and admiration that the class of 1981 dedicates our edition of the Lion’s Roar to Miss Sandra Lawrence , a conscien- tious teacher, an exceptional worker, and a con- siderate and amiable friend. Our successful class activities are attributed to her endless contribu- tions of time and effort. Our many thanks and gratitude are extended to our outstanding teacher and friend. 14 SPECIAL THANKS . People learn from experience. When the yearbook editors held their first meeting in May of 1980, we thought that producing a yearbook would be a relatively simple task. However, the editors quickly learned that this was not the case. Mrs. Sharron Hubbard, our advisor, was then a novice in the yearbook field. As the year progressed, together, we learned the many phases necessary for the completion of this yearbook. Often, there were times of confusion and frustration, but nevertheless, without Mrs. Hubbard, the year- book staff s job would not have been as suc- cessful. The yearbook staff wishes to express their many thanks and appreciation to Mrs. Hubbard for her work in producing our year- book. The yearbook editors would sincerely like to extend their gratitude to Mr. Winthrop Handy of Winthrop Studio in West Boylston for his unfailing enthusiasm and competence in taking countless photographs. His unselfish devotion of time and talent contributed greatly to the production of this yearbook. From taking a quality photograph to printing hundreds of different-sized pictures, Mr. Handy was always very willing to help. It is with deep gratefulness and thanks that we dedicate the photography of this yearbook to Mr. Winthrop Handy. 16 17 ADMINISTRATION Mrs. Nancy Smith, Assistant Superintendent To the Class of 1981: By the time you receive this yearbook, your days at West Boylston High School will have come to a close. I think it is important that you understand and appreciate the opportunities afforded you by an interested community hav- ing provided the staff and academic equipment for a vital and valuable education. Seek always to better yourselves and be determined to prepare yourselves for an in- telligent citizenship using every means of further education. Being graduated into today’s society demands your special consideration of the future. You are reminded that as a country, we are striving to maintain our ideals of democra- cy. Maintaining a true demo- cratic society requires genuine character. Keep informed. Dem- onstrate your beliefs. Show that you have vision, character, and a devotion to our public welfare. On behalf of the staff and administration, sincere best wishes to all of you in all your future endeavors. Each class spent a great amount of time and effort with the pre- paration of their sets, costumes, props, and lighting for their plays. The class of 1981 presented the play, “An Apple for Teacher”, a lighthearted comedy taking place in a small schoolhouse classroom. Student directors for the play were Donna Cooney and AnneMarie McLaughlin. The class of 1980 won the event.
