PROM; Fra:o.k X ejxsre laPrade, Prjjicipal 5 15 74 attached please find the final disposition of members of the Class of 1975. ' feu x ili note an Increased emphasis on junior and comraunXty colleges in this group as many students are nox seeklng tvjo yea:.- terminal prograns particularly in the health fields. This trend will probably continue as increased financial costs make a 4-year program difficult to fin.ance. In addition there is a general feeling tiiat the tv?o year program is sufficient for career preps-ratlon and students are e nxlous to embark on a spec5.fic career. There is also more and more demand for deferred admissions as students indicate thep xjill work for at least one year prior to post-graduate education. We suspect this trend will continue also. We appreciate the consistent cooperation of the secondary school administration smd superintendent of schools In all matters pertaining to Guidance, The school committee msmbors Iiave alv ays been eactrenK ly encouraging and supportive. We are especially grateful for the ecopera, tion of students and parents for their cooperation durln: the five year stay of each student here. Finally whatever success the students have is a tribute to the hard, work, patience, and understanding of the elementa3?y and 3oeonda.ry school staffs. Someone who cares . . . He’s always there to help us Through even our hardest times . . . Now ain’t it good to know that We’ve got a friend MR. EDWARD BOUVIER “MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT” Ideas, ideals, and individuals matter most in our lives. Some ideas change v ith the times, some ideals are modified under stress, some individuals command our admira- tion and some disappoint us. But there are always some ideas we will not forfeit, a few ideals we will not alter and a few individuals we learn to cherish. Taken together, they helped make us what we are and will be determining influences on what we may become. Mr. Thomas A. Wood Mr. Charles N. LaPrade MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL” In my life, there are many memories . . . many vivid . . . many remote . . . many heartwarming — and a few which have been discouraging. But my profession is of my own choosing, and had I not enjoyed working with young people, I would not have selected a career in education. Memories in your life in school are especially vivid now and may prove to be more vivid in years to come. If I could impart one precept to you from these memories, it would be to live a life of kindness and understanding for everyone ... to show a sympathetic understanding in your various actions akin to a love of mankind. Too often are we prone to judge quickly . . . too often are we guilty of not under- standing situations completely and thus react in a manner detrimental to someone . . . too often are we not “full of the milk of human kindness” and make derogatory remarks very harmful to others . . . too often do we display a selfishness which causes injury to others. One could not lead a better life than by following the philosophy of doing good for others. This signifies leading a life of loving humanity . . . your friends, family or any- one with whom you are associated. If this is accomplished, you will have succeeded beyond your wildest dreams — a life of bitterness can be empty; a life of kindness is fulfilling. 10 MRS. H. RYAN I MRS. M. BEAUPRE MRS. M. The West Boylston Class of ’74 finally graduated today, ending their five- year residence at West Boylston High. The long-av aited graduation ceremony will forever be remembered. The joyous ex-students quickly departed for high- spirited class parties, with the West Boylston Police Department close behind. Considering their unforgettable tenure, it is hard to imagine that the mem- bers of the Class of ’74 could ever have been those obnoxious eighth graders, piled high with books and filled with the fear of being LATE FOR CLASS! Yet it is true that in 1 968 they experienced that awkward year during which they were too old for the Edwards School and too young to be in any way con- nected with high school life. They had an interesting enough collection of stud- ies, like Mr. Garofoli’s crash course on basketball or Ms. Taylor’s tooth-pick carpentry course in which they learned the structural approach to log cabins and teepees. In their earth science classes they learned how to plot the geog- raphy of Oakdale (which isn’t much) in three easy steps. Miss Cogswell’s read- ing techniques were only surpassed by her honorary membership in the Police Traffic Patrol Society. Rounding off their glorious entrance to W.B.H.S. were Mr. Maynard’s music appreciation class and Mrs. Hoey’s fantastic art course. Their ninth grade year started off as usual with the distribution of a four volume handbook of rules and regulations at W.B.H.S. The Class of ’74 had finally achieved a social standing as Freshmen. With this standing came the privileges of electing class officers and having someone to pick on — the new eighth grade. The teachers were the same, though the courses changed. For instance, Mrs. Bositis’s “Everything You Wanted to Know About Grammar but Were Afraid to Ask,’’ or Mr. McCarthy’s drawing course with Superman and Lois Lane as models. Mr. Sullivan taught “The Perfection of Desk Alignment,’’ and Mrs. Rosis gave a course in French dialogues and the habitual use of the pink slip. By the end of that year they could say good-bye to Mr. Ricardi, who had been with some of them for three LONG years. In their sophomore year the members of the Class of ’74 realized that they were at W.B.H.S. to stay, at least for a few more years, so they established a regular routine of making their names and faces and deeds well-known to the faculty and administration. There were changes in the school (FINALLY!) as a modified open campus was adopted for juni ors and seniors. Unfortunately, the Class of ’74 were still sophomores. But this caused no discouragement; they left anyway. Money became a problem, so they tackled it with soap and water. The Car Wash was a huge success. There was just one slight obstacle: climbing the lad- ders to reach the height of their work, the top of a Polar beverages trailer truck. The accomplishment of this feat showed their true spirit, and that spirit was noted coast to coast in an AP newsphoto release. Many have admitted that the 1971-72 school year was one to be remem- bered. In Mr. Mentzer’s interesting biology class the sophomores dissected everything from worms to a fetal pig. Well, almost everything. Many of his students wondered why Mr. Mentzer only casually mentioned a certain few physiology chapters while Miss Zottoli attacked the same chapters with great detail and enthusiasm. Many memories evolved while the class members sat in those “fun” chairs in Room 308 where they learned the sacred art of keeping a tie clean by tucking it right into the shirt while eating lunch. The Junior year proved to be prosperous: 1 :30 release, the money- raising(?) pillow sale, and especially the unforgettable “Night in White Satin.” That was the year of farewell to Mrs. Inman, and welcome to Miss George and her “Astrology in a Nutshell” course. A warm “En Hjartlig Helsn- ing” was extended to Eva and Ulf, exchange students from Sweden, who attempted to adapt to the W.B. way of life. Mr. Bouvier amazed the class with his magic tricks. Various masterpieces began to take shape in the shop. In 1 973; the beginning of the end, the senior year. And it proved to be the best! The class members wanted to be remembered, and they will be after their senior ball, “Colour My World,” the sell-out senior play. Come Out of the Closet (will Hilda and Irene ever learn to make a bed?), and the greaser “Let’s Go to the Hop” (Jackie and the Juniors will never be forgotten.) Their last in-class thrills included Mr. Pendleton and his parent ego state, Mrs. Skill- ings’ “Book-a-Week” club, Mr. Phelps’ new drawing and painting class, and “The Joys of Shakespeare” with Mr. White. All in all, the Class of 1 974 will be long remembered. How could anyone forget them? 43 Generally speaking . . .
