Seniors . . . SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Treasurer, Sabine Milzg President, John Arkenbergg Secretary, Aim Monroe, Vice-President, John Limbach. V5 18. . .SENIOR INTRODUCTION NATIONAL MERIT FINALISTS Bob justl, VVilliam Bauman, john Arkenberg. W'inuer of Merit Schol11rsl1ip--- Bob Iustl. For four years, members of the class of '63 have walked the halls of XVest Bend High School. It seems only yesterday that we were freshmen, learning to push through the crowds. Each new year we have stepped a little deeper into the struggle of life, and we are now about to make our bid for independence. Throughout our four years, we have had many experiences to give us pride and a sense of satisfaction. NVe began with contributing our time and effort to the num- erous extra-curricular activities, including debate, forensics, and various clubs. NVe had outstanding athletes and generally became accustomed to the swing of things. Later, we proved our ability to accept social responsibilities and made the May Ball and Post Prom something to remember. XVe showed ourselves to be scholas- tically capable, a preview of the leadership we very ably assumed during the next few years. In the next two years, we took advantage of the many oppor- tunities offered to us. It was significant that there were so many in our class Who proved to be leaders. Instead of having only a select few, we proved that on the average our class was extremely capable in handling the varied situations which faced us. Talent was present in many areas. Some starred in the oper- ettas, Brigadoon,' and Carousel Others performed in many plays. Our leaders excelled in governing in the YAC council and Student Senate, and outstanding students brought honor by scor- ing extremely high on national scholarship examinations. Our athletes were second to none and crowned their high school careers by going undefeated in football and winning indi- vidual state titles in swimming, Besides sports, we triumphed in other areas. Our three state debate champions and our AFS representative to Argentina, our homecoming queen and our representatives to Badger Boys' and Badger Girls, State all deserve high commendation. NVe will never forget our work on the junior Prom, Ebb Tidef, and our repre- sentatives who headed the Clipper and Bend staffs. Everything that we have accomplished has given us a sense of pride in our work and a willingness to move ahead in the future. The four years in school have been an experiment with life, It is here that we have come in contact with other people and their ideas, here that we learned to accept responsibility and authority, here that we have moved into position to begin our lives in a World in which the only shelter available is our know- ledge and ingenuity. Upon graduating, we will end an era. Now we must make a break from childhood and begin living as adults. The class of 1963 has proven itself ready to fill the vacancies left by the older generation. As we look back on our high school careers, we recall, with fondness, tl1e friendships we made, the experiences we shared, and the accomplishments we achieved.
