I 4' Y Constructing the Future Former students and faculty members returning last fall, as well as the incoming freshmen and new faculty members, certainly must have been amazed and sur- prised when they entered the modern addition to West Bend High School. Ever since February 1, 1957, when the ground was broken for the 31,425,000 addition, its completion had been eagerly awaited. The facilities in the new addition include a double gym, chorus and band rooms, a swimming pool, health room, a multi-purpose activity room, high school class rooms, and several vocational rooms. At the same time the old gym was transformed into a well-equipped, ef- ficient cafeteria, and the old cafeteria, band, and chorus areas were changed into regular classrooms. The new double gym and swimming pool were wel- comed by the physical education department and the entire student body. Now instead of using the McLane gym, the athletes and students have access to a high school gym and at one time can be seated for general assemblies, pep meetings, and entertainment programs. Wrestling and swimming teams have been added to the list of competitive sports. Swimming classes have become a part of the physical education system. Open to the students during the day and to the com- munity after school hours is a multi-purpose activity room. With a juke box, hi-fi, and TV, the YAC Q Youth Activity Centerj furnishes musical entertainment. This large recreational area provides table tennis and pool tables, a large area for dancing, and a snack-bar. The back and front views reveal beauty and modern design. The spacious band and chorus rooms meet the needs of the music department very well. Both rooms are equipped with risers and the most up-to-date audio equipment and provide adequate practice rooms and storage space. Since the new addition has been built, its facili- ties have not only given the students opportunities for learning and recreation, but have also enabled the people of the community to participate more completely in the educational program. Truly the school has become more community-centered.
