Uur concern for a better future has prompted us to dedicate the '57 Bend to an organization whieh is striving to preserve world peace through understanding among the youth of differ- ent nations. For ten years. the Ameriean Field Seryiee has served this purpose. bring- ing together the younger gtneration ol' the world, Founded in lftl-l. the .'Xmeriean lfield Seryiee hegun us il volunteer IclIIllJLll2il tl'l' seryiee eztring for thousands ol' wounded in XN'orld Win' l. lt served in the same ezi- pneity in World XYar II with the men olithe Allied .-Xrmies. Bands of liriendsliip estztlb- lished then proyided the basis for et future program. 21 peace-time effort which would llurthei' good leeling among nations. Today the reality ot' this program is ate- tromplished by the exehange oli the youth ol many nations. Students. young inert and women from zlhroad are brought to this Country to live in .'XIHt'YlL'2lIl homes and to attend .-Xmerieztn high schools. ln return, the Field Service sends United States stu- dents alirozld lor the summer months only. The knowledge ol' the diflerent ways of lite, the rieli experience these students gain is in truth a gain lor future peace.
