We, the Class of 1955, dedicate the 40th volume of The Bend to Mr. Sam Cupery, the choral director in our School Town. It is indeed fitting that we should pay this tribute to a man who has contributed much to the cultural development of our citizens. His cheerful disposition and understanding have encouraged students to join the many choruses until today there are 354 members. Mr. Cupery's interest in creating outlets for musical talent has brought into existence the annual operetta and the Christmas concert. After graduation from Cambria High School Mr. Cupery attended Oshkosh and Milwaukee State Colleges where he ob- tained a Bachelor of Arts degree. Shortly after graduation he served as elementary school principal at Friesland, Wisconsin. Then. in 1948, he joined the faculty of the West Bend High School and became a teacher in our School Town. The interest he has shown in the students has reached be- yond the limits of the campus. On a crisp, bright, winter day or a hot, sultry, summer afternoon, Mr. Cupery can be found man- aging the concession stand at Regner Park where the students enjoy winter and summer sports. As an expression of our gratitude for his work as choral director, and for the inspiration he has given us to enjoy vocal music, we, the graduating class, are grateful for the opportunity to dedicate the '55 Bend to Mr. Sam Cupery.
