JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS Pat Klein ---- Secretary-Treasurer Ralph Klumb ------ President Don Schreiner - - Vice-President This year we, as juniors, entered school with a new feeling of importance. We were upper-classmen. Our first major class activity was that of electing Ralph Klumb as class president and prom king, Don Schreiner as vice-president, and Pat Klein as secre- tary-treasurer of the class. The juniors pitched in to make the traditional homecoming activities a grand success. One could always find juniors present when a group met to work on the bonfire or when a committee was ap- pointed to arrange for the little things that no one would ever get credit for. When the awards for the winning floats were announced, Mr. Bertram's home- room was overjoyed with their third win in a row. Our '53-'54 homecoming faded into a happy memory as Kaye Frankow took her place in the court of honor at the dance following the game. With much pride and pleasure, we chose our class rings and displayed them to the less fortunate under-classmen. The junior class was blessed with many talented persons. Mary Keeley and Nancie Matenaer had parts in the all-school play Hangman's Noose. Harry Kissinger once more had the male lead in the operetta, The Fortune Teller. Many more of the talented junior boys and girls participated in this activity. On the intellectual side of our extra-curricular program we had Gordon Griese- mer who took his place on the A debate squad. Carmen Kerry and Gordon Griesemer also went to the state forensic contest at Madison on Sat- urday, April 10. Page twenty-four Uniors The worle is lzarcler, lout tlze air smells sweeter During the entire year the jaunty juniors con- tributed much to the athletic activities of WBHS by way of participation and by enthusiasm. Prominent junior figures on the athletic field included: Don Schreiner, Don De Tuncq, Al Peters, and Bill Clay- baugh. Many juniors also entered the intramural con- tests and were victors in many events. Our classmen displayed good sportsmanship and school loyalty in every task undertaken. The student body was led in its cheers by four junior cheerleaders: Barbara Sonnenberg, Betty Troedel, Eileen Staral, and Sue Griepentrog. Toward the end of the year all of our efforts were turned to making the prom a splendid social affair. The theme of the 1954 prom was Loveliest Night of the Year. At a special pep meeting called after school everyone was excited when King Ralph Klumb announced Virginia Hoy the '54 prom queen. When we receive the '54 Bend, our junior year will be considered ended, but we will look with even more expectancy to the last lap of our education on the road of success. 1
