They criecl flzey auglzecb flzey losf, they won And now we are seniors! It seems a long time since that day in 1950 when we started our high school career as green freshmen. The things we have learned and ex- perienced throughout our four-year journey will live on as cherished memories of the past. From the very first day, we as a class started to develop a firm foot-hold in the activities of the school. We began by electing Dianne Mechenich. Dennis Kral, and Janet Schultz as officers of the class. Right from the begin- ning, we began developing outstanding athletes and were also winning debate and forensic honors. We entered our sophomore year in high spirits, for we were green freshies no longer. We meant to prove our worth in all possible ways. The first thing we did was to elect Bob Lauson. Jerry Matenaer, and Barbara Frankow class officers. Our sophomore class was represented in practically every extra-curricular activity which was off- ered in West Bend High. The junior year is probably the best and most import- ant year of any. At least so it seemed for the class of '54. It was a year of triumphs and successes which will be long remembered. Our first triumph in this year was electing Bob Lauson as president of the Student Senate. We chose for our class officers Bob Schneider, Dennis Gagan, and Ruth Bunke. All those who purchased and received class rings were very proud of them. After this event came homecom- ing with our candidate, Linda Taagen being elected home- coming queen. The spring of our junior year was very exciting, for this was prom time. We chose for our theme 'tMoonlight and Roses. Bob Schneider, our king, selected for his queen. Jeanne Collien. The wonderful music, provided by Larry Ladd, amid the beautiful decorations and the prom royalty, was an event which will be remembered by all who attended the lavish social affair. Now we are seniors, fast approaching the end of our four-year journey. For officers we elected Peter Hosp, Bob Hensler, and Lucille Miller. Barbara Frankow and Dennis Gagan were elected to the senate positions of secretary-treasurer and president, respectively. In all the flurry and excitement of the homecoming parade, bonfires, and homecoming dance. we forgot that this happiness would end with graduation. As Bette Weber took her place on the homecoming court. we suddenly realized this was our last year of high school. With graduation plans came the announcement that Rita Gundrum and Joanne Gutjahr were co-valedictorians of the class. As June 3 neared. we thought back and truthfully could say that we had a successful high school career. While some of us will continue our education. others will start working, a few will join the armed services. but what- ever we do. we will always remember and cherish our experiences as students at the West Bend High School.
