Every now and then we seniors stop to say, Doesn't it seem strange to be a senior and to be graduating in June?l' We have come a long way in four years, and now are proudly and justly able to bear the title of a senior. Oh! how we remember that September morn- ing in 1948 when we entered the high school for the first time. At first we were rather uncertain of ourselves as are all freshmen, but after a few days we knew the school routine quite well. When class elections were held, we selected Don Mayo as presidentg George Brugger as vice-president, and Sandra Kell as secretary-treasurer. We had our first homecoming and realized what an enjoy- able task it was to work on floats and windows. As the year drew to a close. we had established our- selves as loyal citizens of West Bend High. We returned to school that fall and partici- pated in the many activities that took place. For our officers we chose Robert May, presidentg Dick Richie, vice-presidentg and James Miller, secretary- treasurer. When homecoming arrived, Miss Pod- ruch's homeroom received a second place award for its float. Several of the sophomore boys showed their ability at sports, and our class was also well represented in forensics. Then the junior year, one which we will never forget! One of the first things on the agenda for that year was the selection of class rings. We elect- ed class officers, who were James Rosenheimer, president: James Weber, vice-presidentg and Jean Herlin, secretary-treasurer. Again at homecoming we displayed our creative ability, for Mr. Runkells homeroom took first place for its float and Mr. Caldwel1's homeroom first place for its window. Before we knew it, it was time to begin work on the prom, and work we did. The theme was Cin- derella , The crowning of our king, James Rosen- heimer and his queen, Joan Wagner, highlighted the events of that wonderful evening. And now we had reached our most unforget- able years we were seniors. Ronald Larson was elected president of the Student Senate and Charles Spaeth, John Gadow, and Joan Wagner were elected as president, vice-president and secre- tary-treasurer of the senior class. This year proved to be more busy than the rest, for we were always rushing to class play rehearsals and commence- ment committees, getting Bend stories in on time or being fitted for caps and gowns. As we reached the climax of our high school career, we could honestly say it was one job well done. ,J Top Hours of planning College Day Center Hours of work Senior Announcements Committee Beverly Becker Betty Berg Maia Bergmann Barbara Bernhardt Marilyn Bunke Betty Conrad Joel Cook Barbara Dewey Richard Finch Bottom Hours of fun Hobo Day glance fall Paul Fischer Rosemary Fellenz Joanna Franz John Gadovi Ellen Goddard Nancy Hughes Ronald Kral Ronald Larson Barbara Leiser Mary Loduha Margaret McCargo George Mmz Jane Nehrbass Rita Reinders James Sauer Delores Schrank Gladys Stoffel Carol Suchy Horst Wagner Page twenty-one if
