O W O CLASS OFFICERS Jerry Matenaer - Vice-president Bob Lauson - - - President Barbara Frankow - Secretary-treasurer That blast of cannon just heard was the soph- omore class arriving on the first day of school. In just a few short months we had changed from green freshmen to superior sophs. We wasted no time, but plunged like dolphins into the swing of high school life. Bob Lauson, Jerry Matenaer, and Barbara Frankow were chosen as our class officers. When homecoming rolled around, we partici- pated eagerly. Ethel Frank was our candidate for Queen. Two sophs, Dick Becker and Roger Stoffel helped make the championship football team tops. Ilo Rauscher made the varsity basketball team and played excellent ball. Several fellow classmates gave the track team a boost, among whom was Ed Zautcke, speedy quarter-miler. We dominated all the B teams, with Dennis Kral, Gordon Rose, and Tom Oel- hafen being most outstanding. We really churned up the air waves in speech activities. Dennis Kral and John Moeller, our silver- tongued orators, led the group. Close on their heels were Celia Frank, Dave Gumm and Barbara Laycock. Many others contributed their talents to drama- tic productions, the Clipper staff and the operetta. We sophs shouted loudest at pep-meetings, back- ing our teams to the hilt at all games, and showed an indefatigable school spirit. Page seventeen Top Row --- Lavern O. X.. -nhl 9 ay' CLASS OFFICERS Jim Lang ------ President Jacqueline Cook - - Secretary-treasurer Ken Frank - - Vice-president Presto! Here we are juniors with all the prestige and esteem that we had envied so much last year. Now we, too, have attained that social prominence. Soon after school started, we elected Jim Lang as our class president and prom king, Kenny Frank, vice-president and Jacqueline Cook, secretary-trea- surer. We chose our class rings in October. How proudly we flashed them to those who were not yet upperclassmen. After a long and hard struggle against the sen- iors, we finally succeeded in the annual Student Senate campaign to have a representative of the class as an officer. Donna Held became secretary-treasurer. Several juniors played on the football team and helped to make it the best ever. The junior cheer- leaders were Blanche Stowers, Ann Matenaer, and Janine Maxon. Edith Shaw, one of our classmates, reigned as queen at the annual Mid-Winter Snow Ball. Basketball claimed our athletes too Kenny Frank, Danny Duernberger, and Bob Kell. Many Juniors excelled in speech work. For the latter part of the season our A debate team was made up entirely of juniors Mary Lou Millard, Carol Gonring, Walter Ziegler, and Steven Schatz. Highlighting the year was the long-awaited jun- ior prom, held on May 2. Stairway to the Stars was chosen as the theme. The hard work of all the enthusiastic juniors made the prom a great success, Page eighteen
