The Governing Bod The student senate of West Bend High tries to follow the high ideals of a democratic form of govern- ment. Representatives chosen from each homeroom meet under the able leadership of President Curt Claus, Vice-president Ed Blohm, and Secretary-trea- surer Ruth Kahl. to discuss and plan for a better school for the entire student body. One of the greatest achievements of the student senate this year was the establishment of a workable monitor system. For years our school had been both- ered with a hallway problem. After studying the prob- lem at length, the senate, backed by the student body, organized a monitor system. Thus far it has proven successful, even though it has been in existence for only a short time. Another great project of the senate concerned a student activity card. Plans have been completed to establish such a card here at West Bend, This card would be purchased by students at the beginning of the school year and would entitle them to all school activities throughout the year. The senate hopes to see this plan become a reality. The magazine sales campaign was again handled very ably by the senate, profits being divided among all clubs in the school that participated in the cam- paign. Two of our senators again represented West Bend at the Little Ten Student Council Meetings. At these conferences our senators exchanged ideas with other schools and developed a better all-'round understand- ing of student government bodies. Other items of school business such as planning homecoming, conducting a lost and found department, and tabulating the achievement cup points, were also again handled well by the Senate, along with some problems presented by the student body to the senate. ln order to present a successful homecoming pro- gram, it became necessary for the student senate to Jack VVeninger' congratulates the newly elected Studs nt Senate Officers. President Curt Claus, Viet--president Ld Blohnr, Secr'vtzrr'y-tr'e:isiirer' Ruth Kzihl. appoint several different committees. lt was their duty to plan the various activities, which were to take place. Through their efforts it became an unforgettable event. The business of the lost and found department entails the keeping of a complete record of all items lost and found within the school or on the campus. Toward the end of the school term all unclaimed articles were displayed for the benefit of the students who had lost something. Tabulation of the achievement cup points also involved a good deal of consideration. The committee consisting of several of the senators worked consist- ently in order to reach a fair decision. Thus we can see, that our student senate is living up to our ideals of a democracy-a government of the students, by the students and for the students. Trip How---Jolrn Schaefgen. Dick Mur- tiny.
