T rrckr T rackmen When the Badger trackmen reported for the begrnmng of the l948 track season the materral drd not look too promrsrng There were only four lettermen returnrng Dan Kuhn Eugene Bohn Peter Molter and Clrff Bauer At the frrst meet at Madrson the Badgers tred for erghth place wrth Kuhn gettmg all the pomts by placrng second ln the broad Jump and the hurdles A week later the Badgers traveled to Cooney where they lost by a score of 72M 40M Although the Badgers were beaten they put up a good showing Some of the flrsts that were taken by the Badgers were credrted to Cy Richter rn the At Whrtefrsh Bay the Badgers fmrshed at the tall end of the meet The most outstandmg performance of the meet was Pete lVlolter s run ID the mrle Although Pete was 40 yards behrnd the leader with a sprrrted frnrshrng luck he pulled up to second place and almost placed frrst The trme he turned rn was 4 51 The next contest was a trrangular meet wrth West Bend Hartford and Oconomowoc The Badgers placed second nosrng out Hart ford by ZW pomts Kuhn had a freld day by gatherrng three frrsts ln the West Bend Port and Hartford meet the Badgers stacked rn last place Ar Ripon rn the conference meet Rrpon tred for frrst place wrth Cooney whrle the Badgers frnrshed rn thrrd place At the Sectronal at Port three Badgers earned the rrght to go to the State Meet at Madlson They were Dan Kuhn rn the hurdles Drck Larson rn the 880 and Pete Molter rn the mrle At lVladrson Dan Kuhn was the only man to place wrnnrng frfth rn the hurdles The last meet of the season was at Port where the Badgers took thrrd place Some of the polnts earned were taken by Wenrnger second ln the shot put Kuhn frfth rn the broad jump I 948 TRACK SQUAD Top Coach Caldwell W Boerger L Bohn P Molter D Kuhn J German Coach Runkel Center H Roecker D Hahn D Schaefer R Rerchert L Heppe K Troedel J Drexx Bottom R Wcyres R Larson C Blazel J Hoelz J Wenmger J Krueger R Klumb C Bauer .
