Hausa i, Yea! West Bend I I Homecoming cheering section Happy Homecoming History The excitement of Yvest Bend Highis homecoming began several weeks before the big day arrived. The students of each homeroom worked industriously on their floats and window decorations, hoping that the judges would award the prize to them. A great deal of the credit for a successful home- coming goes to the Student Senate. The commmittees were composed of Parade --- joel Hetland, chairman, Evelyn Spartz, Pat Denker, and Roland Vogelg Bon- fire --- jack Koehn, chairman, jerry Miller, and Her- man Casperg Window Displays --- Elaine Bohn, chair- man, janice Koth, Joyce Bauer, and Mary Hetebruegg Social Committee --- Marlyn Reirike, chairman, Katie Vogt, Dave Grogan, Ann Lauson, and Phyllis lnder- muehle. The first event on the list of homecoming activities was the hunt for the red and white stick on Thursday, October Zl. Senior Joel Hetland found it and had the honor of crowning the queen and lighting the home- coming bonfire. The colorful parade took place Thursday night at 7:30 p. m., and was followed by a huge bonfire on the high school campus. As the materials from the floats were thrown in, the bonfire was reflected in happy and hopeful eyes. Queen Pearl Miller reads the Homecoming Proclamation surrounded by her court: Joan Potter, Bette Lziufer and Joyce Prornersbel ger. CD Q1 I Q. The game began promptly at S oiclock on Friday night. Sparked by the spirit of homecoming and the cheering crowd, our team rolled over the Berlin squad by a score of l2-0. After the game excited students flocked to the McLane School for the big homecoming dance. The grand march was led by Queen Pearl Miller and her escort King Ken Herman, with Joyce Promersberger, joan Potter, and Bette Laufer completing the Court of Honor. During the intermission we gathered around the stage to hear Dan Kuhn, Homecoming Chairman, announce the results of the float and window display contest. Miss Heidneris senior homeroom took first place in window display. with Miss Marshallis and Miss Neffs homerooms taking second and third re- spectively. First place in the float contest went to Mr. Eggerfs junior homeroom, while Miss Podruchis and Mr. Schwehr's homerooms captured second and third places. After dancing to the music of George Cayton, we departed tired but happy. Our game had been won, and our homecoming was a success. We'll all remem- ber this year as the year we made happy homecoming history. WASHINGTON COUNTY PIONEERS FUTURE HOMEMAKERS Monde Meetings Top --- Helen Hausmann, Ella German and Myrna Dieringer bring out a little of the old for the Washington County Pioneers. Bottom ---The officers of the Latin Club, Janet Schneiss, secretary: Russell Wiskirchen, president, and Mary Otten. vice-president pose in their togas . The Washington County Pioneers opened activities this fall by initiating twenty-three new members into their club. The club adviser, Miss Heidner, has a close contact with Wisconsin historical research, being a member of the State Historical Society. The interesting museum gives the students an opportunity to concen- trate on local history. This year films about the history of Wisconsin were shown. Officers for this year were Betty Tuchscherer, president: Wilbert Koller, vice-president, and Katie Vogt, secretary-treasurer. LATIN CLUB The S. P. R., famous for its fun and food is one of the most active clubs in school. Under the direction of Harold Hoopman, the club adviser, it has made outstanding accomplishments throughout the year. Plans were made this year for the Latin Club Banquet, held every spring. The theme was the Saturnalia Festival, which was done in Roman style. A. carefully judging some sheep, The Future Homemakers of America believe that learning to keep happy homes is an important factor in their high school years. lnterests were centered on making toys for children in orphanages, and projects for the Red Cross. This year club members served at debate luncheons and the Dairy Herd lmprovement Association Banquet. The club is under the leadership of Miss Ryan and the officers Betty Lang, Marlene Hartleb, Marcia Ritger, Pauline Schneider and Helen Guth. FUTURE FARMERS The F. F. A. is a club for boys who are interested in farm problems and progressive agricultural methods. The activities of the club opened last fall with the fifth annual Parent and Son Banquet. Again on February Sth the chapter was host to the Junior Dairymen. The second semester found many boys preparing their projects for the Bred Gilt Sale held on February 16th. Robert Hosp was sent to the F. F. A. speaking convention. Mr. Arthur Kurtz, the agricultural instructor, is club adviser.
