The High School is The only lcnown owner oT This booklet The school library was inTroduced in 1893-4. The Tirsr boolcs were boughr wiTh The proceeds Trom a TheaTrical given by school TalenT. The library was open To The public if all rules were observed. The TirsT menTion oT TooTball is Tound in The records oT I895. The game, which was played aT The coun+y Tair, neTTed proceeds oT SIO which were Turned over To The science laboraTory. IT was decided in l899 To erecT a separaTe high school building, and The sum oT SIZOOO was puT aside Tor This purpose. The new building was ready Tor occupancy on SepTember 3, I900. The principal, J. A. Buckley, held The posiTion Tor iusT one year. l-le and l-lerman F. Luedus, The assisT- anT principal and German Teacher, were The only insTrucTors in These early years. Classes As The years advanced, The enra-curricular ac+ivi+ies and The sTudies grew in ouanTi+y and in gualiTy. ln I892 music was ir-Troduceo 'n'o The cur- riculum. New courses in hsrory and Eng Ish were 6006d in l903. Two years aTer, in I905, Mr. D. E. McLane was chosen orincipal, and he has served TaiTh- Tully in Tha+ capaciTy ever since. In The same year a physical laboraTory was TiTT-ed up. Ar1oTher Tine acldiTion was a piano, which was purchased wiTh The proceeds Trom enTerTainmenTs. A year laTer The assembly and reciTaTion rooms in The old high school were TransTormed inTo one large hall. STage eguipmenr was added, Thus providing an excellenT place Tor school enTer- TainmenTs. A piano was provided by The grade school Teachers. A very inTeresTing TacT To noTe is ThaT The school board seT aside cash prizes Tor The besT penmen and spellers. The graduaTing class oT I908 presenTed busTs oT our Two greaTesT American paTrioTs, Wash- ingTon and Lincoln, To The school. In The same year ErnsT Franclcenberg resigned his posiTion as direcTor oT The school board aTTer many years oT service. In I909 The graduaTing class gave The school an equally Tine giTT OT a bas-relieT OT Aurora, Godess oT The Dawn, which shows her scaTTering Tlowers beTore The charioT oT Apollo.
