l onnle. 4 ! Cil % h v ■v V V p ‘66 FOREWORD As the fleeting moments of yesteryear elude us, we wish to establish ourselves in the annals of time. Although friends must be made and lost, we must go our separate ways as pebbles on a beach venturing for more enlighting moments. Even though we will be absent, the memories of our years at West Badin will linger within each of us as we no longer a group, but individuals, travel our different directions. In order to preserve some of those golden highlights we, the Senior Class of 1966 wish to present The Little Blues. The passage of time will not hinder, but forever endear our hearts to those we leave behind. YEARROOK STAFF Editor, Kathryn Gramling; Assist. Editor, Connie Cagle; Advertising Manager, Delois Gramling; Busi¬ ness Manager, Betty Bennett; Circulation Manager, Johanna Davis; Typists, James Cato, Johanna Davis, Johnetta Hines, Betty Bennett, Kathryn Gramling. 2 A CKNO WLEDGE MENT Grateful appreciation is expressed by the Senior Class to their ad¬ visor, Mrs. S. You have completed a task; you have achieved a goal; you have fulfilled a dream. That which at one time seemed out of your reach, is now within your grasp; that which at one time seemed impossible is now certain. Your happiness is a deserved one for we know that your success did not come easily. Many of the obstacles which failed even to deter you, victimized many who started with you. Now they are numbered among the drop-outs, but you are numbered among the graduates. This triumph is not the result of just pure luck, but the fruition of your earnest toils and your constant endeavors. Our best wishes to you as you begin anew. May you carry with you those qualities which have proven their worth and those ideals which have merited your aspirations. 8 SENIORS Bennett, Betty PRESIDENT Chip Ambition -- Biologist Burch, June Junie Ambition -- Secretary Cagle, Connie Cheese Ambition -- Draftsman Davis, Johanna VICE-PRESIDENT J.D. On August 30 1962, 46 weary, but excited travelers entered into the hilly country known as West Badin High School. There to greet them and guide them further on their journey were Mrs. R. H. Hall, Mrs. R. T. Cox and Mrs. S. H. Martin. The caravan leaders (class officers) were Roger Kirby, President; Betty Bennett, Vice-Presi¬ dent; Cynthia Powell, Secretary; Linda Hough, Assistant Secretary; and Connie Cagle, Treasurer. The most thrilling events during the sojourn were the crowning of Patricia Washington as Miss Homecoming and Kathryn Gramling as Miss N.H. A. The Freshman Hill was surmounted, but there was Sophomore Hill -- much steeper, tougher, and older. The caravan leaders were the same: Roger Kirby, Presi¬ dent; Betty Bennett, Vice-President, Cynthia Powell, Secretary; Linda Hough, Assis¬ tant Secretary; and Connie Cagle, Treasurer. The guides on this journey were Mrs. S. H. Martin and Mr. R. S. Adams. In ' 63, battered and shaken, but much more excited, the caravan reached the foot of Junior Hill with the air of expectancy at last being a part of a prom. The leaders had changed positions. Heading the caravan were Sandra Allen, President; Sally Blanding, Vice-President; Kathryn Gramling, Secretary; Melvin Strudivant, Assistant Secretary; and Connie Cagle, Treasurer. In the midst of Prom Time, U. S. A. , the caravan found itself awed by Fantasy Land . This journey ended weeks of toil, disappointments and drop-backs -- but the results were wonderful . . . the best of West Badin High. Those who reached the uppermost summit of Junior Hill thereby becoming mem¬ bers of the Crown and Scepter Honor Society were Connie Cagle, Johanna Davis, Kathryn Gramling, Betty Bennett, Patricia Washington, and Vicki Lizer. At last in ' 65 the caravan reached and smoothly went over its steepest peak, Senior Hill . Now, here we stand, our school journey over, going ahead of the caravan and joining those at the tops scholastically were: Delois Gramling, Philetta Medley and Valarie Walker, (they became members of the Crown and Scepter Honor Society) We now look back at years of study, fun, and excitement. There before us lies the great future. We can truly say: We Have Crossed the Hills, but Yonder lie the Mountains .
