THE PRINCIPAL’S MESS A GE To The Class of ' 64 Friends; Silently, slowly and almost without notice, the days of your youth have mysteriously disappeared and you now find yourselves on the threshold of adulthood and at the door of a new way of life. With this passing of time and with this realiza¬ tion, it probably would not be too presumptuous of one to imagine the thoughts which are now passing through your minds. Foremost among these is probably the one relating to your debts. At this stage in life, when an individual is about to go out on his own, he usually looks back before moving ahead, and in this backward glance, sees the host of well-wishers who have brought him to his present state. He sees his minister, his Sunday School teacher and his neighbors. His school and the school personnel are also recognized as contributors and he realizes how much he owes to all of them. But the debts he owes to these people are dwarfted by the tremendous amount of love, sacrifice, care and concern of his parents. Here he sees debts unmeasurable for he knows that they were given with love unmeasurable. How can one pay for all that has been given to him by his parents? Only you have the answer to this question. If you will be counted among those who will aspire for that which contributes to good citizenship, for that which raises the standards of one ' s environment and for that which raises one ' s self above the mass of fallen humanity, then the debt is paid. All that parents, all that friends ask is that you do well. Not that you become millionnaires, but that you do well; not that you become leaders of the United States, but that you do well. Our desires are that you help others as others have helped you -- that you contribute as you have received. Our hopes are that you do not become a liability to your society nor a hindrance to its progress. If these ideals are pursued, then the debt is paid and the account is closed. % 4
