They were gorgeously arrayed and everything about them bespoke a happy and carefree existence. Who were they? Thirty-nine freshmen entered the classroom of Mr. V. B. Byers. It was hard to buckle down to high school work, but we did. We elected as class officers Dimmie Byrd, president; Henry Cunningham, vice president; and Daisy Watkins, secretary. The most thrilling events of the year were, the Freshman and Sophomore Ball and the N.H. A. Ball. As we danced on the floor of the auditorium, we thought we were in paradise. Dimmie Byrd was our attendant for Miss Homecoming and Edith Henderson was our attendant to the May Queen. Returning the next year as sophomores, we found we had lost some of our classmates, but in their places we gained new ones. With Miss F. P. Rogers as class advisor, we elected our officers and once more headed for more work, Pearlie Bennett, president; Elizabeth Jones, vice president, Miss Homecoming was Dorothy Rush; the king and Queen of May were Robert and Daisy Watkins. Again we attended the Freshman and Sophomore Ball. On August 1954, we met again and got ourselves ready for hard work as juniors. Franklin Bruton, president; Henry Cunningham, vice president; Dorothy Rush, secre¬ tary; Edith Hen derson, assistant secretary; Pearlie Bennett, treasurer; and Miss E. A. Dawson, class advisor. Homecoming Queen was Galatha Turner. We had a big N.H. A. Christmas Party that worked splendidly. Finally May arrived, yes May brings sweet memories, the Junior and Senior Prom. A beautiful sight it was, with A Night in Hawaii as it’s theme. The music was furnished by Mr. Hawkins of Troy. We en¬ joyed ourselves to the fullest extent. August 25, 1955, twenty-nine mannerly important looking students enrolled in the Senior Class, seeking their last year of instruction and teachings from the school they loved so dearly. Class officers were immediately elected, Shadie McMillon, president; Pearlie Bennett, vice president; Daisy Watkins, secretary; Henry Cunningham, assistant; Enoch Henderson, treasurer; and Miss E. A. Dawson class advisor. Class projects, the yearbook, football, basketball, chorus and finally commencement. As our high school career gradually fades away we ' ll always remember our class motto; One Step at a Time, But Always, Forward.
