i 7 .X .- nr- .. In ORGAN BLEDSOE i1578-19315 In grateful remembrance of Mr. Bledsoe, our school custodian, who gave over thirty-five years of his life to our school and who will live forever in the memor es of the students and teachers, we, the members of the Senior class, wish to dedicate our 1951 Badenette. 'I cannot say, and I will not say That he is dead. He is just away. with s cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, He has wandered into an unknown land . And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since he lingers there. And you ---- oh, you, who the wildest yearn For an old-time step, and the glad return, Think of him faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here. Think of him still as the same. I say, He is not dead ---- he is just away.' ----James Uhitcomb Riley 4 'T 'Nf ,..,,- - EY 2? f. Some of us were so eager to get to school that we were even ahead of our school custo- dian, Mr. Bledsoe. Consequently, we had to sit on the front steps to wait for the eight o'clock signal, that old school bell. that gave us the Go sign. After Mr. Conrad, our superintendent, finished his welcome address and we at last gained enough courage to dare to look around at all of the recruits gathered in that famous rame of FRESHMEN, we discovered that the following names appeared at one time on our class roll: Robert Abel Carl Allen Thelma Bennett Peggy Bledsoe Herbert Bostock Donald Brosmer Delores Burton Rosemary Butler Ruth Chestnut Forrest Hamilton Vernon Kail Kenny Kendall Betty Jane Kerby Eugene Knight Georgia Mae Knight Donald Land Irene Land Glenda Lashbrook Mary Ruth Collins John Logsdoh Glenn Crowe Tommy Ellis Glen Hallaway Neale Hallaway Thelma McCarty Carl Meehan Alta Nelson Richard Newlin Florence Picou John Pierson Betty Powell Mary Pruett ErnestQualke-nbush Irene Qualkenbush Joan Rominger Ruth Rominger Rosemary Schaffer Lee Stackhouse Robert Stevens Nancy Trueblood Donald VVilson Helen Young That year things happened quickly. We were unwillingly drafted into algebra, English, biology, general math, shop, and home economics. We had hoped for lots of fun and little work. but truly our teachers reversed that order! A freshman's life was not all fun, but even before We realized it, we had passed that first high school step and were given the name SOPHOMORES. The fall of 1948 found thirty-four members in Olll' class. Ah. that was a year to remember for we started our high school career in true fashion when we presented Maybe It's Love as our class play. And what a hilarious time we had on that never- to-be-forgotten hayride with our sponsors. Miss Hilbert and Mr. Hendrix! How quickly the months flew by and the fall of 1949 found us reporting as full- fledged JUNIORS! VVe presented The Daffy Dills as our junior play. and how we worked to sell ice cream, cokes. and potato chips to help swell our class treasury. Mr. and Mrs. Joehrendt were our sponsors and we were definitely working for that famous red-letter day when we were to be the hosts to the Class of 1950 at the Junior-Senior Reception. May 6 found us all at Calumet Lake enjoying a delicious dinner and then attending the Astra Theatre in Jasper where we sa xv Barbara Stanwyck in East Siide, West Side. Our class picnic on the last day of school ended a most enjoyable junior year. On September 1, 1950. when we entered our Alma Mater as SENIORS, we were very happy for we were on the last mile of that four year journey. With Miss Bedster as our sponsor, we elected the following officers: Forrest Hamilton ...........,...,..........,.,..,.... ,.,,..,......,,,, P resident Georgia Mae Knight ..,.. ,, ,,,,,,,. Vice president Glen Hallaway ....................................,,.,,...,,,,........ Secretary-treasurer Melvin J. Dalton .............,,...,.,,,.,,.,,....,,,...,......,r,...r.,...,r..,,.........,.,r,,...rr Reporter We sold 1,000 basketball schedule pencils and then counted our money to decide on our class gift to the school. We spent S300 and installed a two-way inter-communi- cation system so that every room in the building might be more modernized. Our parties and activities were happy ones, but our entire class was greatly saddened in January when Mr. Bledsoe, our school custodian, died quite suddenly. We loved him-he was truly a friend to each one of us, and we shall never forget him. We have almost reached the last step of our high school days. We are sincere when we say the enjoyable times we have had in W. B. H. S. far outweigh the un- pleasant times. We know that our parents, our teachers, and our friends are all sending their very best wishes with us as we leave our school and look forward to our future. Our sincere hope is that We shall each one strive to do our very best in whatever the CLASS OF 1951 future may bring to us. Thelma Bennett Rosemary Butler Glenn Crowe Melvin J.
