CLASS 0F 1950 As we look back on our school days, we find many instances that stand out in our minds as very important happenings in our school lilfe. We can't remember very many things that occurred to us in those good old days in the lower grades. However, we dare to venture this thought that some of the teachers could tell us some very unpleasant things, but We won7t delve too far into such matters! We do recall that eight of our present twenty-two members started in the first grade in West Baden in September, 1938. These were: Fritz Dixon Teddy Lefler Gene Elliott Eddie Payton Sally Ellis Ethel Runyon Jack Johnson Nadine Tussey From these eight. the following have spent their entire school life in the West Baden School: Gene Elliott Teddy Lefler Sally Ellis Ethel Runyon Thena, in the spring of 1946, the following ones of our class receved diplomas from the eighth grade here: Rosalee Allen Roscoe Knight Wayne Archer Teddy Lefler Clyde Chastain Billie Mahan Fritz Dixon Lloyd Moffatt Gene Elliott Eddie Payton Sally Ellis Ethel Runyon Christene Fox Marie Self Jack Johnson Rex Wells The fall of 1946 was indeed a gala occasion for we were freshmen at lust! The school could hardly hold our enthusiasm on that opening day when we marched into the old study hall thirty-two strong! However, by the end of that first week., those high and mighty sophomores had taken some of the starch out of our sails! In fact, algebra, English., and biology helped calm us down quite rapidly. Then, almost before we realized it, we were returning the next fall as full-fledged sophomores., Even though we were no longer freshies to be kidded, nor juniors with so many important tasks to be performed, there were several high lights that year. Our class play.. It's a Deal, increased our treasury 357036. We struggled through a test of salesmanship in our magazine subsr-ription campaign and ended 366.48 richer. Our athletic ability won the headlines, for we were Softball and Basketball Champs of our school. All of these events made the time move so very rapidly that we were not at all surp ised when on a certain day in September, 1948. we were -- Juniors! Ah, that year was truly a calendar with red letter dates! At last we were planning for that all-important event, the Junior-Senior Recep- tion, with the gay 'J-9'ers as our guests., With such an even.ing in our thoughts, we set to no' k in earnest to swell that class treasury! Our class play, Three 'Days with Gracef, netted us 37380. Our salesmanship at ball games increased so rapidly that our tinances soon became a minor matter to us! During our junior year we were once again Softball Champs, but we prefer to skip the Basketball Champs twe-'ll let the Class of 1951 tell -you that next yearll. The crowning joy of our junior year was the Junior-Senior Reception held at Cal- ument Lake in Jasper. All year we had been keen rivals of those dignified seniors, better known to us as the Gold-Diggers, but when they were our guests on this grand occasion, we laid aside all of our differences and really enjoyed the evening. The food was perfect and we even thrilled to the movie, Tarzan and the Magic Fountain.f All too quickly -our junior year ended! And now we are SENIORS on that last .lap of our high school voyage. We've looked forward to our graduation ever since we started in school., yet as that date draws nearer we must admit just a slight feeling of regret that we, too, must soon leave our Alma Mater. Our class ofticers, Rex Wells., Fritz Dixon, Na-dine Tussey, and Marie Self have been splendid leaders. We strug- gled this year to become expert salesmen so that our gift, an electric mimeo- graph, might be presented to our school early in the yearg We worked hard to make our Class Day an outstanding program: and then we sat back and thoroughly enjoyed the splendid reception given us by the Class of 1951. And now, as the future looms so broad on our horizon, we hope that we may each have the ability to find his place in life and after finding it to do his best toward making a success of life. May we all strive to serve in this world to the ver-y best of our ability, for we are convinced that our motto holds the true key to success: The elevator to success is broken, take the stairsf'
