Chick Monning Gary Pittmon Jim Groninger Tom Jones Dave Shepard Jeff Egolf Mickey Wypych Tom Fisher When the State Tournament came, the Hawks, greatly outsized, lost to a tall Geneva team in their first game of the Regional Tournament. The score was 63 to 50. Led by Captain Dennis Siebert at center, the starting five usually consisted of Gary Munn and Tom Trotter at forwards and Bob Rea and Tom Young at the guard positions. Important replacements were Chick Manning, Mike Heim, Dick Green, and Jim Groninger. The Junior Varsity coached by Arnie Verbic showed great potential as they compiled the fantastic record of 13 wins with only 1 loss. HAWKS 2nd AT DEKALB Tom Young Mike Heim Although having a losing season with a record of 13 losses against only 9 wins the 1960-61 Blackhawk basketball team finished sixth in the Big 8 Conference with a 4 and 6 record and also captured second place for the second year in a row at the DaKalb Tournament during the Christmas holidays. Coach Bob Knilans in his first year as Varsity basketball coach had both the problem of height disadvantage and that of inexperience with which to contend. By the end of the season the team had come a long way and showed it in victories over East Aurora, Elgin, and the upset of the high-rated LaSalle-Peru team. Gary Munn Bob Rea Dick Green Page 16
