Bob Bergman, presidentg Tom Meidell, vice presidentg Sue Finley, secretaryg and Dick Flet- cher, treasurerg were elected as our class offi- cers after a spirited campaign. The juniors are grateful to our advisers, Mr. Meyer, Mr. Axelson, Miss Peterson, Miss Holty, Mr. Bluhanm, Mr. Stephens, Mr. Buckmuhl, and Mr. Herget. We missed Mr. Stephens during his long illness and were glad to have him back. They certainly helped the class of '52 through a successful year. We shall always remember the highlights of our junior year were decorating the home- coming float, working at concessions, 1 Two cof- fees and a coke coming up,',l taking those rug- ged Illinois tests, presenting Our Miss Brooksf' the popular class play, getting our class rings and realizing that we's soon he seniors, and finally the excitement and thrill of planning and attending the wonderful Junior Prom. Since many of our group are in the hand and choral groups, we watched the progress of the fine new music addition with keen interest all year. Together with the freshmen we sponsored the Frosh-Soph dance, Spring Swing, March 10. We further showed our decorating talent hy transforming the gym into a lovely garden with hundreds of beautiful paper flowers and a wish- ing well. Of course, the dance was a success. These festivities were handled by the Vllest High Student Council. President Bob Albrecht, vice-president Bob Wioodrow, secretary Donna Zolper, and treasurer Rodger Peters planned the Ama- teur Show and the Thanksgiving Dance, held in our gym, which was attended by 800 people. Accompanied by sponsor A. C. Ridinger, the officers and five juniors at- tended the District Convention. The council, which includes all section representatives, class presidents, athletic captains, club officers and the Student Council board members, meets monthly dur- ing school hours. The preference ticket system was success- fully enforced again this year. Students with the most punches from home basketball games were given first choice for seats at out-of-town, regional, and sectional contests. Doug Hill, Carol Hyman, Bob Albrecht, Mary Heitkotter, Al Seith, and adviser Miss Clark composed the Pep Committee, which planned all the pep rallies for the year. The council treasury provided funds for the many assortments of costumes used. The marriage of Princess Blackhawk and the .loliet Steelman, the bathing s11it kick line, the funeral procession for East, and L Duffy, the M0dll8f,, were among the highlights of this year's pep rallies, which will long be remembered by Wiest High students. PLANNING MEETINGS and activities was the job of student council officers. THE STUDENT COUNCIL hoard listens while President Albrecht makes an im- portant call. Club programs during the season ranged from discussions of serious and humorous stage material considered from the stand-point of 'GWl10 appre- ciates what? and LgWl1y?,' to the lis- tening of records from the musical pro- duction, South Pacific. In extra min- utes the group witnessed specialty num- bers or participated in charades. Spon- sorship of the club in its various activi- ties was by Miss Oleda Rislow. LAY THAT PISTCL DCW THE OLD MASTER PAINTER Certificates given to members of the Paint Pot Club helped to make them more conscious of their club dutics. The cluh awarded these cer- tificates on the basis of points, which were earned hy attending the monthly meetings, helping at con- cessions, and being active in the club projects. Une of these projects was a Hobby l.ohhy, which gave the members an opportunity to display their hobbies. The members learned about new Christmas tree ornaments and made some very attractive ones. Interest- ing movies increased their appre- ciation and knowledge of different fields of art. Coleen llale presided at the meet- ings with Burdette linger, vice- presidentg Mary Fitzgerald, secre- taryg Beverly Shaw, treasurer. Miss Sauer sponsored the club. The Red Cross officers and sec- tion representatives had a busy year as they assisted in the Junior Red Cross drive for funds, entertained the City Wide Council on December l3th, sponsored a dance, and sent gift boxes to unfortunate children in state institutions. This year's leaders were Edward Fisher, president, Mary Ellen Con- nelly, vice president, Janice Allen, secretary, Dorothy Pride, treasurer: and were ably advised by Miss Agnes Hendricks, sponsor. The use of lathes and other hand and power tools was learned by the club members. Corner shelves, magazine racks, and house number signs were a few of the well designed and carefully constructed objects which the boys made under the able supervision of Mr. VV. P. Burckhard, sponsor. If you happen to pass by the Vllood and Metal club room on club day, the buzzing and hammering emanating from the room no doubt indicated to you the eager participation of all the members. With the vital assistance of Mr. Leslie Gee, faculty advisor, the Vlfest High Graphic Arts Club printed many of their own Christmas cards. This is a popular project for the boys at the December meeting each year. Bob Douglas, Dale Stahl, Bill Rost, and Ronald Klein served as president, vice-prseident, secretary, and treasurer, respectively. They selected for the club a movie, on the making of paper, which was so informative that the Vlfest High Boys' Club secured it for their last meeting of 1950. 'hun' of HOLIDAY FOR STRINGS West Higlfs orchestra, directed by Mr. Warren Felts, is a growing organization in which both the beginners and the more advanced musicians may find a place. In- terest in the orchestra is gradually increasing as a result, so Mr. Felts says, of the re- newed interest in the grade schools. This is verified by the large number of new members who signed up this year. There are more freshmen enrolled than upper elassmen--a bright promise for the future. The orehestra's violin section this year consisted of Kay Morey, seniorg Adele Johnson, freshman: and sophomores Cordon Boucon and Carol Sue Fowler. Strum- ming on the violas were ,lean Tindell and Virginia Roth, sophomoresg and Patricia Decker, freshman. Phyllis Bleek, freshman, was the cornetist. The cellos were bowed hy freshman Katy Heitlxotter and senior Roberta Weingart and Eleanor Larson. Brenda Bannister and Gail Evans, both freshmen, played bass viol. Anne Larson, freshman, was the only flutist, and Nancy Mcllleery, the only clarinctist. Handcl's 'Wvater Music, and uTrun1peter's Lullabyw topped the list of the orch- estra's favorite music, along with HFantasy, and HlVIilI'Cll of the Cirdern by Mozart. The main event of the year was the picnic in the spring. REVXIJY T0 PREFUHM are orchestra members: tfirst rowj Carol Fowler, l5itsy Johnson, Kay Morey. US C THE AIR 'Sing Noel, Noel, Noelln echoed through the halls as the 75 singers, enthusiastic sophomores, juniors, and seniors, prepared for another concert. Competition among the singers is great, for from this group Direc- tor Sten G. Halfvarson chooses the most capable singers to occupy the empty seats in A Cappella choir. Constant drilling on tone, pitch., and quality help to make each one more eligible for Senior Choir mem- hcrship. Miriam Faircloth, president, Mary Evans, vice-president: Sue l.ovc, secretary, and William Kilgore, treasurer, helped Mr. Halfvarson take care ol' any choir business. Hliheruliini Songf, The Time ls Now, 'gRise, Arise, and Hlieth- lehem were a few of the many songs in the varied repertoire of the energetic singers.
