NINETLLN E O S 1:1oHTE12N History of the Class of 1918 191+ 15 Ralph Judd President 1915 16 Harold Mercer Pres1dent 1916 17 Ravmond Uppfelt Presrdent September the eighth of the tear 'Nlxneteen Hundred and Fourteen was a Red Letter Dax on the Calendar of the West Hugh School of Aurora, for that das marked the entree of one of the most promxslng and bnlllant classes that ever assembled there Needless to sax, we were a trlfle txmld and verdant, but our natural self conhdence began to assert Itself at an early date Wlfll the help of Mr Merrlck, we organized our class, elected our ofhcers and appomted a committee to select the pins and rings Later we entertaxned the entlre school at a verv jollw partw Our class was well represented on the athletic Field and ln the Operetta PFIUCCSS Bonnle, which was gxven ln the sprmg of 1915 Before our second sear had rolled bs, we had agaln dxstmgulshed ourselx es ln athletics members of our class taking actrve part ln football, track, and basketball The bows won the champlonshlp of the class basketball tournament the glrls took second place rn theirs being 1 llump Vhfe, bw three of our classmates, who took therr parts exceedmglx well Several of us were promlnent m the Cylee C lubs and Ill the llterarx SOCICIN Our thlrd wear was saddened bw the death of herald Xoung one of the most popular mem bers of our class Again, as ln our second wear, the boss carried off the school champlonshlp lh the basketball tournament, the girls were equallw successful ln wmnxng thelrs Several of the bows played on the regular football elex en Durmg the wear, under the supervlslon of our class advnsors, Mxss Goodwm and Mr Hadlew, we held a masquerade partw In the gum, gave the plav The Rose of Plwmouth 'Iown, and entertarned the Semors at the annual jumor Prom at Electrlc Park 'Ihese festlvxtles were acknowledged bs everwone to be among the most enjoyable that had ever taken place Our reputation for entertaining so well establrshed m the other sears, was rn no was dlmmlshed m thls, our last tear for the parties gnen were pronounced brrlllant successes 'lhen 'Ioots Mercer, as captaln of the football team, led hrs players vlctorxouslv through their schedule Our class both glrls and boss, excelled ln the other branches of athletics as well In patrlotlc work we took the lead, organlzxng a Patrlotlc League and Betsx Ross club 'xnd alded bw the mothers and teachers sewed knitted and made surglcal dressmgs The boys were serv generous rn their response to the X M C A war fund subscrlptxons Six of the bots of our class, namelx Charles Pauls, Bernard wX7llkl1'lS0Il, Carl Hankev, Edward Cress Arthur lsramer and Harold Mercer, heard the call of dutw and leaung thexr books and school frxends, jorned the colors And now, vuth great reluctance, we brd farewell to our dear Alma Mater, but the memory of these four happw wears will ever remain with us FIORENCE WRIGHT, 18 29 4 4' f 4 4 . , . v ................................. l Y . ................................................. .' . . x ' 3, U '.
