Wx? 5 M-1 1- -1 -is Q 'x The 1978 Varsity Indian football team struggled through a newly-expanded 10 game season. Lack of experience seemed to be the key as the Indians won 2 contests and lost 8. In its first game IVest Allegheny fell from a 6-6 half-time score to bow to Quaker Valley, 20-6. The Indians' second home game, against South Side Beaver, produced the first victory of the season. 6-2. SVA. then visited first-time opponent Brentwood, dropping a 1-1-12 eliffhanger. Peters Township ruined YV.A.,s Black Hill's Conference open- er, administering a 28-12 defeat. G .cy c 2' K qiilti' 'wiv' .ra 'Q Next, the Scarlet Tribe was blanked by the conference champion Carlynton Cougars, 32-0 at Carlynton. The Avonworth Antelopes then came to Indian Country and held YV.A. scoreless, 28-0. The Tribe traveled to South Park only to be handed its third consecutive shutout at the hands of the Eagles, 28-0. In the next contest, W.A. was defeated 47-0 by a fired up Burgettstown team on the Indians' home turf. The Indians then picked up their first and only conference victory by shutting out the McCuffey Highlanders, 18-0. The season finale was a 27-7 loss to Fort Cherry. Xaais Q.
