On September 4, 1963, 171 students, members of the class destined to become the largest ever to graduate from West Allegheny, began their final year of school. Numerous fund-raising projects were held to finance their trip to Washington. In the fall a magazine sale was held followed by the class play Great Scotts. Light bulbs were sold in the spring and a roast beef dinner climaxed the money-making activities. On April 23 one hundred and eleven seniors and two foreign exchange students left for Washington, D. C., for a week-end of fun and pleasure. The following week-end the seniors attended the prom, the highlight of the social season. Finally on June 2, the class, together for the last time, marched down the aisles at the graduation exercises. All to take separate pathways, the members of the class of 64 departed from the ceremony ready to take their places in life, forever mindful of the memories of their school years spent at West Allegheny.
