Seniors OFFICERS BETTY HARVEY ------ Secretary P JOY MCCOY -------- Treasurer RUTH METZGAR - - - Vice President A FRED DRUGMAND ------ President ,4 Hackward Glance at '58- '59 To peer into the future and preview the coming events of our times is impossible. But we can look at the past. We attempt looking backwards now at our last year in West Allegheny High School, The year 1959 was a memorable one and to us, the class of '59, especially so. We will always cherish the wonderful memories and the excellent times we have spent here. With this book we hope to review the memories from time to time for even the fondest recollections become slightly faded and obliterated through the years. Oct. Nov . School opens, the seniors begin their final year. Voting for class officers - Fred Drugmand is elected senior class leader. Magazine campaign - The campaign starts off with a bang. Paul Kowal is awarded a watch for being the best salesman. First football game. The season starts off on the wrong foot with a 41-0 shellacking by Montour. The home opener is spoiled by a 26-0 loss to Crafton. Student Council Election - After two days of high spirited campaigning, Don Stewart wins the election of President. Runner-up, Pat Smith becomes Vice President. Teachers Institute - After six long weeks of school we have our first vacation, At l,astl Senior class play tryouts - Miss Stewart makes last call for actors and actresses. Senior pictures - Say Cheese, is heard through the halls as Vic Polk took the sen- ior pictures. Report cards distributed - A sad day for some, a surprising one for others. Our final football game ends with a victory. Indians beat Quaker Valley 20-14. Season Dec. ends gloriously after a slow start. Students chose Bill Burns as Mr. Touchdown for 1958 in Al-Lites poll. Senior Class Play - The Sunshine Twins - The play isn't a Broadway Hit. but opening nite at W.A. is just as thrilling. Soph I-lop - 'Winter Dream Land - The The Sophs are in dream land and the seniors begin to realize that the time is drawing nearer. Thanksgiving Vacation - A rest fromthe daily schedule and also a chance for some to do their Christmas shopping. First Basketball game - The year is really really slipping by. The Indians are off to a bad start as they lose to McDonald '16-45. Christmas Band-Chorus Concert - The spirit of Christmas fills the air as the band and Chorus put on a usually splendid PCI' formance in this annual event. First Wrestling Match - The Grapplers make it unanimous for sports fans. They also lose their first outing to Kitanning. Christmas Vacation - The students look for- ward to having two weeks of rest and dream of food, more food, indigestion. fContinued on Page 251
