On September 6, 1949, a group of approximately 175 students from all corners of the West Allegheny district entered the seventh grade. Although these teen-agers were strangers to one another, they soon overcame their shyness and made W. A. realize they had a real class of Indians on their hands. After three years of junior high they started their climb up the hill to the Senior High. Upon their entry into the Senior High they decided to make history. As November 26 rolled around, they got to work and had the annual Soph-Hop with the theme Harvest Moon decorating the gym. As they entered the eleventh grade with about 139 students, they kept on making changes in W. A.'s history. Instead of ordering the usual class sweater, this class sported scarlet and gray jackets. When junior class play time came upon them, they picked a play requiring changes of scenery fthe first in W. A.'s history bookj. With the aid of the local P.T.A.s and organizations the junior class sponsored a gala prom and all-night party. The gym was transformed into a Spanish Town. With 128 students left, the class moved on to be one of W. A.'s largest senior classes. This year showed a large crowd out to see the senior class play, I Love Lucy .
