Since our life began, we have been guided by the hands of the two people closest to us, our parents. Their hands held ours as we cautiously took our first steps. A few years later they led us across the street to board the school bus. They soothed our feverish head in times of sickness, and hurt our feelings when used for punishment. Through grade school and junior high they guided us when we wanted to be as the gang. Now, as seniors, we want to take these helping hands in ours and say thank you for your guidance. fplarzniny Ugg Oqllsfygcuziarz Seated: N. Langer, B. Rikerg co-editors: Marge Mustio. Standing: S. On September 6, 1949, a group of approximately 175 students from all corners of the West Allegheny district entered the seventh grade. Although these teen-agers were strangers to one another, they soon overcame their shyness and made W. A. realize they had a real class of Indians on their hands. After three years of junior high they started their climb up the hill to the Senior High. Upon their entry into the Senior High they decided to make history. As November 26 rolled around, they got to work and had the annual Soph-Hop with the theme Harvest Moon decorating the gym. As they entered the eleventh grade with about 139 students, they kept on making changes in W. A.'s history. Instead of ordering the usual class sweater, this class sported scarlet and gray jackets. When junior class play time came upon them, they picked a play requiring changes of scenery fthe first in W. A.'s history bookj. With the aid of the local P.T.A.s and organizations the junior class sponsored a gala prom and all-night party. The gym was transformed into a Spanish Town. With 128 students left, the class moved on to be one of W. A.'s largest senior classes. This year showed a large crowd out to see the senior class play, I Love Lucy . Hard Work, determined minds, and guiding hands, this class has gained recognition on West Allegheny's history chart. glam Aifzorzaou Miss Conley Mrs. Dalbor 8 Mr. Rohm Miss Stewart X , I of 62 49 998 '1 '4 ' .1 'Qs n 4- K 9 ja' W SX fQ ' 'A not V A . Similar choruses have been in existence for the last six years in W. A. under the direction of Mr. Stewart Morgan. The chorus is a member of the Forensic League and competes in the state contest each year. The aggregation of 1953 Competed in the State Finals. The state championship is the aim of each year's organization. The repertoire of the chorus consists of reli- gious music with some popular semi-classical and spiritual numbers. The chorus has a student accompanist, even though most of the singing is a Capella. A Board of Directors, selected by the chorus, formulates the rules, plans performances, and keeps discipline in the large chorus. Public appearances of the chorus through the year are at assemblies, the Christmas concert, the Spring concert, and scheduled performances away from the school at various colleges, P.T.A. meetings, etc. ofzcafzf Band The senior high band consists of the marching band under the direction of Mr. F. L. Del Monte and the concert band under the direction of Mr. L. Rocereto. The bands consist of approximately 50 mem- bers each. The marching band performs at all of W. A.'s football games and participates in local parades. The concert band makes most of its appear- ances at assemblies, the Christmas concert, the Spring concert, and forensic contests.
