FAREWELL - CLASS '54 Dear Senior s: With all your other friends, we join in extending congratulations upon your graduation from high school and in wishing you success and happiness in whatever activities you may engage hereafter. You are experi- encing, perhaps, two conflicting emotions as your grad- C. R.Cob1emz uation day approaches, one of joy and gladness over the successful completion of twelve years of formal educationg the other of regret and sadness over the breaking forever of class unity and friendship which have grown during the years of working and playing together. From now on you will be more or less on your own, - to make your own decisions,to plan your own way of life, to determine your own attitudes and responses to the great currents of human endeavors which will inevitably beat upon you. It is our hope that your high school course of study, the influence of your teachers and your own increasing maturity have given you the wisdom, the in- sight and the purpose to make wise choices and to so conduct yourselves that your lives may be examples for good to other and reflect honor and credit not only upon yourselves but upon the community and school responsible for your education. When I was a student in high school, I ran across a quotation which has meant much to me and which you, too, may like. I think' its authorshipis cred- ited to Longfellow and goes like this: Live noble lives, as you may in whatever circumstances of life you may find yourselves, so that your epitaph maybe that of Euripides: 'This monument does not make thee famous, O. Euripides, but thou makest this monument fa- mous', Sincerely yours, C. R. Coblentz Dear Seniors, You are to be congratulated on the fine work you have done on your 1953-54 annual. Through your tireless and cooperative efforts you have built, within these covers, lasting memories of the many happy and worthwhile experiences you have shared while here in school. lt has often been said, Life is what you make of it. These words are es- pecially true inafree land such as ours. I sincerely hope that each of you will endeavor to live a full and useful adult life. I have enjoyed working with each of you for these Leilon Mclntire past five years. One of the many rewards in the field of educationis seeing young people, such as yourselves, grow up to become fine citizens in our community. I wish youmuch success and happiness in the future and I thank all of you for the superior leadership you, as seniors, have given to our school: Sincerely, - Leilon Mclntire
