BA D AT WCRK I L K The Music Department has managed to keep Dusy this past school year with a variety of activities. We should first like to mention our band, which has come up with some outstanding shows and concerts this year. The first show was at the County Fair. Then came the football shows, all of which were well worth seeing. The primary grades presented a Christmas program Santa's Workshop . In this little musical setting, we saw everything from dolls to toy soldiers come to life. After the primary children had performed and were visited by Santa Claus, the High School Chorus presented a program of Christmas music. The band also gave a very fine Christmas concert featuring both marching and concert style playing. The music department furnished music for most of the P. T. A. programs. Several grades sang and one group had a program of flutophones. The Ir. High had fun putting on their minstrel. Some of the money taken in at their show was used for a spring dance. The dance was a big success for all concerned. The High School Chorus sang two numbers for the World Day of Prayer. The Chorus of eighty members sang very well. The band had two combined concerts this year. One with Vandalia-Butler, which was given both here and at Butler and the other concert was given with the Eaton band at Eaton. The members of the West Alex band en- joyed playing with the other school bands. The band played for our county toumament at Richmond and put on several shows at the half of the games. During the year several dances were given and the music was furnished by The Shades of Blue this group: Judy James, Janet Klepinger, Raymon Klepinger, Sam Reynolds, Bob Barker, John Fudge, David Fudge, and Terry Karns, have made quite a name for themselves. They appeared on TV and won a trophy, and this spring they will play for the West Alex Alumni dance and also two other school alumni dances. Mr. Williams has started a Jr. Band this year composed of boys and girls from the fifth grade up. The Spring concert this year featured songs by the Jr. High girls chorus followed by a group of different numbers sung by the High School Chorus. The band then presented their half of the concert. There was a select group chosen from both the band and the chorus to be in the all county concert, which was held in our school, May 4th, This year the West Alex Band was the host for the Miami Valley Band Festival, which proved to be one df the most colorful festivals seen in these parts for many years. Baccalaureate and Commencement will still find the music students busy, Q . ' .'-'Q t T ivan, Q. t W E 9 Emo? f - f is -.wlrj fQ. 'Q args 15 .a fr! V Zi , 'Mia T! ig 1 'H
